The role owns the Manufacturing Engineering and Methods function, including the Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC), and establishes methods engineering as a formal capability where none currently exists.Essential Responsibilities\nOwn and deploy Manufacturing Engineering processes, standards, engineering specifications, and best-practice methods of manufacture.\nManage the Responsible Welding Coordinator, ensuring welding coordination is properly resourced and discharged: WPS/PQR control, welder qualification and coding, welding supervision, and closure of open weld-quality root cause investigations, in line with 3834 Pt2.\nEstablish and govern consumable control and weld traceability standards.\nDefine and deploy in-process inspection requirements with Quality, replacing current reliance on end-of-process detection.\nApply technical authority and governance to all technical changes and design-intent compliance.\nPull NPI in line with APQP alongside the Business Unit project quality/design team - validating documentation, processes, equipment, and facilities through pilot, pre-production, production, and run-at-rate, with control plans, PFMEA, process flow, MSA, and first article complete ahead of each gate. \nDeliver capability CAPEX in line with business, customer, and programme requirements.\nLead deployment of CAM, CAPP, and shop floor systems across existing production and the new facility.\nPlan Manufacturing Engineering resource, skills, and capability at team and individual level, including recruitment to build out the function.\nProvide technical direction for the revalidation and manufacture of steam turbine and generator components.\nStrengthen the link between shop floor execution and Tendering, Project Management, Procurement, and Planning, closing the gaps that contribute to Cost and OTD variance.\nMaintain a forward look for manufacturing development, capacity improvement, shop layout, and advanced manufacturing technologies applicable to the business.\nWork with the CI/Productivity function to drive sustainable, evidenced process change.\nAdditional Responsibilities\nSupport customer and regulatory audit engagements.\nManage cross-skill training and the site SQEP matrix to reduce knowledge gaps.\nAct in accordance with defined Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety instructions, including general and company rules.\nUndertake any other duty reasonably required by the Factory Leader.\nQualification Requirements\nEngineering degree in a relevant discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, or equivalent), or equivalent demonstrated practical experience.\nSufficient working knowledge of welding coordination under 3834Pt2 to govern, resource, and challenge the function - specialist welding qualification is not required.\nApplied experience of APQP/PPAP and its core deliverables in a regulated or high-integrity manufacturing environment.\nDemonstrated ability to self-direct and lead through ambiguity.\nThis role supports UK Defence customers and requires the ability to hold or obtain SC-level security clearance as a UK passport holder. Dual passport holders are acceptable where the second country is approved by the vetting authority.\nDesired Competencies\nSteam turbine and generator product and process knowledge.\nSix Sigma and/or Lean qualification and applied experience.\nFacility build, equipment installation, and process validation on a new or greenfield site.\nKnowledge of CAM, PLM, and MES systems.\nCAPEX management.\nBehavioural and Technical Skills / Competencies\nManaging concurrent, multi-workstream programmes.\nStrong knowledge of factory capability, resource planning, lead time, and cost drivers.\nRisk management and structured problem solving.\nResilience.\nWinning and influencing across a matrix organisation without direct authority.\nShaping and driving change where current practice must be displaced.\nBuilding partnerships and managing stakeholders across Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Project Management, and customer and regulatory bodies.\nJoin us and work with global teams to support global customers !
