We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented **Commis Chef** to join our dynamic culinary team in **University College Hospital,Galway, Ireland**. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for cooking and a commitment to culinary excellence to develop their skills within a professional, supportive, and collaborative kitchen environment. Working alongside experienced chefs, you'll contribute to delivering high-quality dishes while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, presentation, and customer satisfaction.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of menu items according to established recipes and specifications
- Prepare and portion ingredients including proteins, vegetables, and garnishes with precision and attention to detail
- Support senior chefs with daily food production, plating, and service during busy service periods
- Maintain exceptional food safety, allergen awareness, and hygiene standards at all times
- Assist with stock rotation, inventory management, and organization of food storage areas
- Keep kitchen and food preparation areas clean, organized, and efficient throughout service
- Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen team to ensure smooth and seamless service
- Follow instructions and guidance from senior kitchen staff while demonstrating a willingness to learn
- Adapt efficiently to different cooking stations and kitchen responsibilities as needed
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment
- Monitor and manage time effectively to meet service demands and deadlines
- Previous experience working in a professional kitchen environment
- Strong understanding of food hygiene, food safety standards, and allergen management
- Excellent knife skills and knowledge of basic food preparation techniques
- Ability to work efficiently and remain calm in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to consistent, high-quality presentation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset
- Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks
- Genuine passion for producing high-quality food and delivering exceptional customer experiences
- Willingness to learn, develop culinary skills, and take on feedback constructively
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Adaptability and resilience when managing multiple tasks and changing priorities
- Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain certification (preferred)
- Basic culinary knowledge and familiarity with kitchen operations (preferred)
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely while maintaining consistency
