Our advanced power systems deliver clean, reliable baseload electricity with zero operating emissions-modular, fuel-flexible, and engineered for the realities of today’s energy demand. At the core is a supercritical CO₂ turbine with integrated carbon capture, designed to bring carbon-neutral power online quickly at meaningful scale. \nOur team includes aerospace engineers, combustion experts, and systems thinkers with a shared goal: to build technology worthy of the world we want to live in. While many of us began our journeys looking to the stars, we’re applying that expertise here at home to deliver dependable, emission-free baseload power and a future of lasting abundance. \nIf you share our values and are drawn to rigorous work with lasting impact, we’d love to learn more about you. Come build what the future will run on.\nSteward our planet: We build for tomorrow, ensuring every bolt we tighten and every hand we lend leaves our environment stronger than we found it.\nLead with Love: We champion the success of our people, partners, and planet, nurturing excellence through camaraderie and rigor.\nExplore the Uncharted: We embrace the unknown with curiosity, using courage and discipline to transform uncertainty into opportunity.\nRole Overview\nWe are seeking a skilled Heat Transfer Engineer to lead component- and system-level thermal modeling for its advanced turbomachinery systems. This individual will own the development and integration of heat transfer and secondary flow models across the compressor, turbine, and combustor, enabling robust thermal boundary conditions, cooling flows, and clearance predictions. You will work closely with aerodynamics, mechanical design, systems, and controls teams to ensure thermally integrated, operable hardware. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in high-temperature turbomachinery design, including thermal FEA, flow network modeling, and transient clearance analysis. \nArbor’s team of world-class engineers and scientists aredeveloping a scalable, low-cost approach to Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) based on modern rocket engine technology. BECCS is a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approach that uses biomass to produce energy and remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and store it permanently underground, while ensuring food security, rural livelihoods, and biodiversity are not affected. Our modular technology leverages the power density of supercritical CO2 to enable compact gasification, oxy-combustion, and high-pressure turbo-expansion to convert abundant waste biomass into clean electricity, water, and high-purity CO2, capturing and sequestering all emissions from the process.Our team brings together a passion for science, technology, and global stewardship to make low-cost, high-quality carbon removal and baseload power a reality. \nThis is an onsite opportunity in our El Segundo, CA office. \nResponsibilities\nOwn thermal and heat transfer analysis for rotating and stationary turbomachinery components. \nDevelop and maintain secondary air system models, including cooling and sealing flow circuits. \nGenerate thermal boundary conditions for structural and clearance analysis. \nCollaborate with aero, mechanical design, and systems teams to ensure robust thermal integration and operability. \nWork with test and validation teams to define thermal instrumentation requirements and interpret test data. \nSupport transient thermal analysis for startup, shutdown, and off-nominal operating conditions. \nDocument results and methods in formal design memos and interface reports. \nContribute to the development of analysis tools and modeling standards for thermal integration. \nRequirements\n5+ years of experience in heat transfer and secondary flow analysis for turbomachinery (gas turbine, aero engine, sCO₂, etc.). \nExperience with thermal FEA, internal cooling design, and/or system-level secondary air system modeling. \nProficiency in tools such as ANSYS, CFX, Siemens Flowmaster, or equivalent. \nUnderstanding of transient thermal behavior and its effect on clearances and mechanical integrity. \nFamiliarity with turbomachinery design principles and thermomechanical integration. \nAbility to manage thermal interfaces across teams and contribute to system-level decisions. \nStrong communication and documentation skills\nCompensation & Benefits\nPre-IPO stock options\nMedical, dental, and vision insurance (Arbor covers 90% for employees) \nBasic life insurance fully covered \nHealth savings account (HSA) with matching \nFlexible savings account (FSA) \nUnlimited PTO \n12+ company holidays, including Earth Day! \n401(k) \nCommuter benefits \nAnnual learning and development stipend \nAnd more!\nBase Pay: $150,000 - $175,000 USD/year. The salary is subject to the applicant's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.\nOur Commitment\nArbor Energy is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate qualified applicants without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital or veteran status, disability, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law. Solving global energy challenges requires a wide range of perspectives and experiences, and we are committed to building a team that reflects the world we serve.\nOur hiring process is designed to be accessible, fair, and focused on the work that matters most for this role. Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the hiring process and employment-please let us know if you need one.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5699,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Life insurance","Stock options","Unlimited PTO","Vision insurance"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Chemical Engineering"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-11T19:21:39Z"}],"liveness":{"score":5,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.184,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":127,"expected_fill_days":24,"reasons":["conf:3","stale_co","ghost","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-09-24T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":175000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/arborenergy-sr-heat-transfer-engineer-turbomachinery","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/arborenergy-sr-heat-transfer-engineer-turbomachinery.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-24T12:34:12Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers"}}
