This position can be based out of any of our Toronto offices, with flexibility to attend project or client sites as required by project need. The position is a senior-level opportunity to lead design and technical assurance of large, complex railway projects and serve as a mentor to our broader engineering and design staff.\nThis role is suited to an experienced licensed Professional Engineer with deep expertise in railway traction power systems and a proven track record of sealing complex infrastructure designs.\nRole accountabilities:\nThe successful candidate will lead the engineering design, assurance and integration of transit traction power systems, including traction power substations (TPSS), switching stations, paralleling stations, negative return systems and track to earth fault protection, ensuring that all solutions are aligned with project goals and client requirements. This role requires a strategic approach to design development and a deep understanding of transit operations, testing, commissioning and stakeholder needs.\nYou will coordinate closely with civil, systems, and construction teams to ensure the seamless integration of traction power systems into the broader infrastructure. Effective collaboration between disciplines is essential for achieving robust, interoperable transit networks.\nEnsuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations is a critical aspect of the role. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining quality and safety throughout the design and assurance process, meeting both industry and owners requirements.\nUphold Arcadis Quality Management System and ensure deliverables are produced in accordance with project and applicable industry standards,\nThe position requires a collaborative approach and clear dialogue with various stakeholders to ensure robust management of project schedules, budgets and resources. Proactive management and effective prioritization are key to delivering projects on time and within budget.\nAct as technical lead for Traction Power matters with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to facilitate approvals and resolve technical issues. Strong communication skills and the ability to address stakeholder concerns are essential for successful project delivery.\nYou will lead design reviews, risk assessments, and quality assurance activities to maintain the integrity and reliability of the traction power system as well as resolving complex technical issues and provide guidance on engineering solutions. The role includes mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical leadership and innovation across the team. Your guidance will support professional development, foster a culture of excellence, and drive the adoption of cutting-edge practices within the organization.\nQualifications & Experience:\nMinimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience in design for major rail and transit projects, preferably within Canada\nStrong understanding of traction power design is required. Preferably with experience in both Light and Heavy rail\nHands-on experience with traction substation design for AC (25 kV) and DC (1.5 kV or 750 V) electrification systems\nDemonstratable experience with traction power simulation and load flow tools\nExperience with rail potential, stray current and earthing systems for electrified railway environments\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Master’s degree is an asset\n P.Eng. license in Ontario is required\nIn-depth knowledge of Canadian railway design standards and regulations, Transport Canada Railway Safety Act, CSA standards, AREMA and Metrolinx/GO Technical standards\nExcellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills\nExposure to alternate project delivery models including AFP.
