And yet it runs on technology that hasn't meaningfully changed in fifty years. Until now.\nArc is on a mission to electrify the marine industry. We're rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. And we're already executing. We started with consumers to develop and harden our core technology. We’re now scaling production of our flagship model with new models and sectors on the horizon. Now we’re extending our platform to commercial applications, starting with tugs, ferries, and defense, with years worth of signed contracts and a pipeline that spans every vessel type on the water.\nThe technology is proven, the momentum is building, and the opportunity is enormous. The marine industry is going electric and Arc is building the platform that powers it\nWho we’re looking for\nAs Arc’s Sales Application Engineer you will own the development of early stage technical architectures, costing, and proposals for new commercial projects.\nWe're looking for someone fired up by the mission and ready to build. You'll thrive here if you move fast, take ownership, and care about the details. Your ultimate goal is to understand our product and market so deeply, and build such powerful internal estimation and sizing tools, that you effectively automate yourself out of the day-to-day work, paving the way for your next stage of growth here.\nThis is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters.\nWhat You'll Do\nPartnering with our business development group as the first technical touchpoint, developing concept solutions and architectures for new marine projects.\nDriving the development of internal sizing and estimation tools. You will collaborate with design engineers to build robust calculators for electrical loads, thermal limits, and pricing-with the explicit goal of streamlining our application engineering engine.\nSizing and specifying complex marine electrical equipment, including 1000V DC busses, multi-MWh energy storage systems, switchgear, and electric propulsion motors.\nGenerating high-level CAD layouts to validate space claims for major equipment (e.g., demonstrating switchgear cabinet lineups within a vessel's hull).\nEstimating costs and material take-offs (BOMs), taking full ownership of the final pricing roll-up and project margins.\nCollaborating closely and empathetically with core engineering, supply chain, and our technical writing team to translate your architectures into clear, compliant, and persuasive bid packages.\nEvaluating customer requirements, ship specifications, and general arrangements to develop optimized technical proposals that align with our mission.\nPresenting technical architectures to clients, shipyards, and naval architects, answering technical questions during the bidding phase with transparency and expertise.\nMinimum Qualifications\n2+ years of experience in the marine industry as an application engineer, proposal engineer, design engineer, or similar role.\nStrong understanding of marine electrical architectures, including diesel-electric systems, fully electric propulsion, and high-voltage DC power distribution.\nFunctional knowledge of energy storage systems (ESS), switchgear, power electronics, and power management systems.\nAbility to read, interpret, and create electrical single-line diagrams, system block diagrams, and complex spreadsheets.\nBasic proficiency with CAD software (such as NX or SolidWorks) for conceptual layouts and footprint planning.\nStrong commercial mindset with the ability to confidently own pricing models and margin outcomes.\nClear verbal communication and the ability to collaborate effectively in an inclusive, cross-functional environment.\nStrong time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple project deadlines simultaneously.\nComfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace, respecting both the work and your own well-being.\nComfortable spending occasional time on boats in the field or at shipyards for vessel walks and client meetings.\nWe value engineers who take full ownership, apply first-principles thinking, prioritize technical problems effectively for the most business value, and actively contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture.\nThis position may require access to information controlled under U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be a 'U.S. person' as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.62) - i.e., a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual (asylee or refugee).\nBonus Qualifications\nFirsthand experience working on commercial vessels (tugs, ferries) or defense vessels, particularly those with electric propulsion.\nDeep experience with high-voltage battery systems and their associated safety requirements.\nFamiliarity with marine classification society rules and regulatory standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, USCG, IEEE 45).\nExperience conceptualizing or guiding the creation of computational tools (e.g., in Excel, Matlab, or Python) for system sizing.\nFamiliarity with fluid/thermal cooling systems, sufficient to understand and utilize internal thermal sizing calculators for power electronics.\nEnthusiasm for boating and the water.\nAt Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You’re always welcome to reach out even if you don’t meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.\nWhat we offer\nThe base salary for this role is $145,000* annually. \n* This salary range reflects a California-based position and may be adjusted based on the candidate's geographic location\nHighly competitive equity grants are included with full time offers. As well as semi-annual bonuses tied to your impact, not just your tenure.\nAdditionally, Arc offers top-tier benefits for full-time employees, including:\nHealthcare benefits - 99% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision\nParental leave - 14 weeks fully paid for birthing and non-birthing parents\nGenerous time off - Highly competitive PTO with an opportunity to earn more time with tenure\nIncome protection - Life and disability insurance for all employees\nRetirement savings - Traditional and Roth 401(k) access\nWater fund - $500 for you to spend each year to get out on the water, however you choose\nProfessional development - $500 annual reimbursement for professional development and a monthly AI stipend \nSafety Support- Annual reimbursement for PPE, ergonomic equipment and anything that ensures we keep our crew safe\nCaptain training - Training and access to take Arcboats out with friends and family\nOffice perks - Daily lunches, snacks, and good coffee while onsite\nRelocation assistance - Available depending on role eligibility.\nOur values\nWe move with urgency and build with care. We value these five things above all else:\nOwnership over both your work and the company’s success\nEmpathy for colleagues and for customers\nHumility in problem solving and collaboration\nPragmatism for navigating ambiguity quickly and sensibly \n Inclusion of different backgrounds, opinions, cultures, and perspectives.\nWe want people who share and embody these values. It is vital that our values align - we’d be happy to elaborate on any or all of these during the interview process.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7432,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":2,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Annual bonuses","Equity","Parental leave","Professional development","Relocation assistance"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["Marine & Ocean Engineering"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-04T06:55:50Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":8,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.286,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":84,"expected_fill_days":29,"reasons":["conf:1","stale_co","win:tail","crowd:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-14T06:34:16Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/arcboatcompany-sales-application-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/arcboatcompany-sales-application-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-14T08:15:42Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":9306,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-15T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":3883863},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=3883863"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Farcboatcompany-sales-application-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Farcboatcompany-sales-application-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Farcboatcompany-sales-application-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/arcboatcompany-sales-application-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Farcboatcompany-sales-application-engineer"}]}
