With operations throughout British Columbia and Alberta, we are committed to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.\nPOSITION OVERVIEW\nThe Power Cable Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of distribution and transmission cable systems. Working under the direction of the Foreman, this role requires hands-on technical expertise in splicing, terminating, and repairing high-voltage cables, combined with a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and adherence to industry standards.\nThis position is based out of our Surrey Operational Centre.\nRequirements\nPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES\nBuild, maintain, and repair underground electrical power transmission and distribution systems.\nSplice overhead, underground, or submarine multi-conductor cables for electric power or telecommunications systems.\nInterpret notes, drawings, and documentation to ensure materials are assembled and used correctly.\nRoutinely apply standards and regulations related to safe work practices, overhead distribution, high and low voltage applications, stringing procedures, line clearing, and underground cable installations.\nInterpret construction drawings to determine the physical layout of work environments.\nOperate a range of vehicles and equipment including mobile cranes, reel tensioners and pullers, and trenchers, along with various hand, power, electrical testing, and hot line tools.\nAssess tool and equipment requirements based on job specifications.\nWork in confined spaces such as trenches and vaults; the role involves sustained physical activity including standing, bending, crawling, crouching, stooping, heavy lifting, climbing, pulling cables, and reaching.\nIdentify and assess hazards, including proper location of underground infrastructure.\nMaintain a clean and organized work environment while following correct cable preparation and splicing techniques.\nSKILLS & COMPETENCIES\nProficiency working with PILC cable, splices, and terminations\nWillingness and ability to travel on an as-needed basis\nAbility to pass a \"Show Me\" test with the governing utility\nCapable of leading a team, working collaboratively, or operating independently\nStrong oral and written communication skills in English\n QUALIFICATIONS & BACKGROUND\nJourneyman certification or trade qualification from a recognized apprenticeship program or cable manufacturer (or ability to obtain)\nExperience working with voltages from 12kV to 230kV\nMinimum 1-10 years of relevant industry experience\nClass 3 Driver's License or higher with a clean abstract is preferred.\nAbility to obtain certifications in Confined Space Entry, WHMIS, and Asbestos awareness\n\nBenefits\nCompensation is in accordance with IBEW 258 union rates.\nApplicants from all provinces are welcome to apply.\nPlease note that due to the volume of applications received, only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
