Responsible for driving continuous improvement efforts\nacross different engineering disciplines. Responsible for making\ncritical decisions that have a large impact on projects and engineering\ninitiatives. Develops and fosters Engineers to think innovatively, hold\naccountability, and process improvement on a daily basis. Performs high\nlevel, engineering analysis, design or re-design, validation and\ntroubleshooting of complex components for heavy duty vehicles. Provides\nintegration and execution support for vehicle and component design.\nProvides technical mentorship in high level analysis and design of new\nand modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering\nstandards and project scope.\nYOUR IMPACT:\n- Manage an engineering team consisting of Engineers, Designers, and\nTechnicians.\n- Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of their engineering\nteam.\n- Provide coaching and development for their team through regular\nperformance feedback, technical and professional training\nopportunities, and creation of individual development plans for team\nmembers.\n- Prepare and control department budget, forecast operating costs of\ndepartment, and direct preparation of budget requests.\n- May have some level of P&L responsibility.\n- Understand market share and P&L for their product line - business\nacumen.\n- Collaborate and build relationships with internal and external\ncustomers, across segments and functions.\n- Ability to present and defend technical engineering decisions to\nEngineering leadership, Oshkosh leadership, and external customers.\n- Responsible for completion of a project or part of a project of\nmoderate complexity on time.\n- May be responsible for overall project schedule and budget.\n- May be responsible for managing multiple priorities.\n- Performs more complex engineering calculations, investigations, and\ntasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry\nengineering standards and processes.\n- Responsible for preparation and delivery of plans, designs,\ncomputation methods, and/or reporting.\n- Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support\ndisciplines internally as well as suppliers externally.\n- May have exposure to the external customers and/or industry\norganizations.\n- Provide guidance or mentorship to entry level engineers working on\ncommon projects.\n- Research, create, and update standard engineering methodology and\nprocedures - best practices, etc.\n- Participate in the budgeting process to include recommending capital\nimprovements and preparing justification data as required.\n- Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and\nexternal customers, and outside resources concerning technical\nissues.\n- Communicate project objectives to team members.\n- Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing\nstandards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the\nframework of company policies and procedures.\n- Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.\n- Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research,\nand historical records.\n- Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts,\ncomponents, and materials that meet requirements.\n- Provide complex technical assistance for production support.\n- Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or\nwritten communication.\n- Provide mentorship to team members to ensure the appropriate\nengineering analysis is performed and documented.\n- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.\n- Other duties as assigned.\n- Regular attendance is required.\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:\n- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and\nfive (5) or more years of related experience.\nSTANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:\n- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.\n- Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment\nand related systems.\n- Experience with a high level CAD system.\nCORE COMPETENCIES:\n- Internal Contacts: Contact with peers and others involving\nexplanation of information (these contacts may be within or outside\ndepartment or division), and the gathering of factual information;\nmay include the communication of sensitive or confidential\ninformation.\n- External Contacts: Limited external contact to: gather information,\nanswer queries, or ask assistance.\n- Communication Skills: Read, write and comprehend simple\ninstructions, short correspondence and memos; Read and interpret\nsafety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure\nmanuals; Write routine reports, correspondence and speak effectively\nbefore both internal and external groups; Read, analyze and\ninterpret business manuals, technical procedures and/or government\nregulations: Read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical\njournals, financial reports and legal documents.\n- Decision-Making: Regularly makes significant decisions and final\nresults, typically affecting the entire department.
