As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of servers and networks to ensure high availability and security. You will proactively monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement best practices for system upgrades and installations. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in system administration, a passion for problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous improvement. In this position, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support various IT initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational goals. We welcome military veterans and individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply and play a key role in our mission to deliver exceptional service to our clients.\nResponsibilities\nPerforming installation, configuration, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting tasks in support of IT customers\nFrequently positioning yourself to set up and maintain computers and connect/pull cords from under desks and in server closets\nPerforming regular and repetitive unpacking, moving, and installation of IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (or greater with additional assistance)\nFrequently traversing around a large VA site campus while transporting equipment to various office buildings\nCommunicating directly with customers on-site to diagnose and resolve customer related hardware/software issues utilizing the ServiceNow tool\nTrack and document all system changes, problems, issues, and work tasks within ServiceNow\nProvisioning of newly procured endpoints to include desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices\nPerform imaging, desktop support, adds/moves and changes\nInstalling OS Patch installation/patch removal (if applicable), OS upgrades and Commercially Available Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software\nProviding user management account support where Elevated Privileges (EP) may be required\nPerforming software application installation and configuration based on change order instructions\nUtilizing log data and system administration tools to diagnose system hardware and software problems, repair, and re-configure or replace defective system components as indicated\nPerforming system monitoring and analysis on assigned systems to discover risks and inadequacies\nProvide recommendations on the need for expansion, enhancement, or revision of systems\nUtilizing Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and SCOM tools to troubleshoot performance issues and deploy software packages, to include Scripting, McAfee, and other VA standard tools\nPerforming inventory functions to include managing pagers and turn-ins including performing media sanitization, disposal and/or turn in of equipment\nPerforming routine audits of systems and software to determine utilization and adequacy for demand, and compliance with current hardware and software site license regulations and requirements\nPerforming general maintenance activities, printer deployment/repair, software installations, and equipment refreshes \nMay include occasionally pulling old cables from server room, as needed\nPerforming asset management to include asset inventory, audit and tracking, asset administration and reporting, integrated IT asset portfolio, history and forecasting, and automating the asset management process, as necessary\nAbility to work both independently and as part of a team to achieve successful results with minimal guidance\nRequirements\nHS diploma or GED and 8+ years of experience with system administration or BS degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or other engineering or technical disciplines\nExperience with conducting routine system administration tasks and logging data in system admin logs\nExperience with maintaining and troubleshooting a wide variety of systems and networks, including high volume or high availability systems\nKnowledge of debugging protocols and processes\nAbility to troubleshoot problems and issues identified by customers and implement corrective actions\nTravel Requirements\nTravel to client locations is required for this position and may vary based on project needs.\nEEO Statement\nVeterans Engineering is committed to fostering a workplace rooted in excellence, integrity, and equal opportunity for all.
