In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize embedded firmware for connected devices, working closely with hardware, cloud, mobile, QA, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality products.The ideal candidate has strong experience in embedded systems, video streaming technologies, and real-time software development, with the ability to independently own complex firmware features from design through production.\nResponsibilities\nDesign, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for IoT and video streaming products.\nOwn major firmware components and features throughout the product development lifecycle, from design to production.\nCollaborate with Hardware, Cloud, Mobile, QA, and ODM partners to ensure successful system integration and product delivery.\nDevelop and integrate device drivers, communication protocols, RTOS components, and platform firmware.\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex firmware, hardware, and system-level issues.\nOptimize firmware for performance, memory usage, power consumption, and system reliability.\nReview board schematics, component datasheets, and hardware documentation to support firmware development and debugging.\nParticipate in design reviews, code reviews, and root-cause analysis to improve software quality.\nEvaluate new SoCs, image sensors, wireless modules, and other hardware components for future product development.\nMentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices and continuous process improvements.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus, or equivalent industry experience.\n7+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, preferably with IoT, networking, or video streaming products.\nStrong programming skills in Embedded C and C++.\nExperience developing software on RTOS and Embedded Linux platforms.\nSolid understanding of real-time multimedia applications, including video/audio processing, compression, and streaming technologies (H.264/H.265).\nExperience with multithreaded and multitasking embedded software development.\nExperience developing and debugging embedded device drivers.\nStrong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills in embedded systems.\nExperience optimizing embedded software for performance and resource utilization.\nWorking knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, RTP, RTSP, SIP and WebRTC.\nExperience with wireless communication technologies such as Wi-Fi, BLE, and LTE.\nFamiliarity with IoT communication architectures and cloud-connected devices.\nHands-on experience using hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.\nExperience using source control systems such as Git.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience developing firmware for consumer IoT or smart home products.\nExperience with industry protocols such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, and Matter.\nKnowledge of Linux memory management, file systems, and bootloaders such as U-Boot.\nExperience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Lua.\nExperience supporting products through manufacturing and production.\nThe pay range for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries at commencement of employment and is expected to be between (for US candidates) $140,000 - 160,000/year or (for Canada candidates) CAD 115,000 - 125,000/year, plus performance bonus and equity . However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including location, role, job-related knowledge, skills, relevant education and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including bonus, equity, and a full range of benefits.
