Monitoring and analysis are performed to identify and report events that occur, or might occur, within the network, in order to protect information, information systems, and networks from threats. This position will support one of our Government clients in Arlington, VA.\nResponsibilities\nAssists the Government lead in coordinating teams in preliminary incident response investigations\nAssists the Government lead with interfacing with the customer while on site\nDetermines appropriate courses of actions in response to identified and analyses anomalous network activity\nAssesses network topology and device configurations identifying critical security concerns and providing security best practice recommendations\nCollects network intrusion artifacts (e.g., PCAP, domains, URI’s, certificates, etc.) and uses discovered data to enable mitigation of potential Computer Network Defense incidents\nAnalyzes identified malicious network activity to determine weaknesses exploited, exploitation methods, effects on system and information\nCollects network device integrity data and analyze for signs of tampering or compromise\nAssists with real-time CND incident handling (i.e., forensic collections, intrusion correlation and tracking, threat analysis, and advising on system remediation) tasks to support onsite engagements\nMinimum Qualifications\nBS Computer Science, Cyber Security, Computer Engineering, or related degree; or HS Diploma & 7-9 years of network investigations experience.\n5+ years of directly relevant experience in network investigations\nIn depth knowledge of CND policies, procedures and regulations\nIn depth knowledge of TCP/IP protocols\nIn depth knowledge of standard protocols - ICMP, HTTP/S, DNS, SSH, SMTP, SMB, NFS, etc. \nIn depth knowledge and experience of Wifi networking \nIn depth knowledge and experience of network topologies DMZ’s, WAN’s, etc.\nSubstantial knowledge of Splunk (or other SIEM’s)\nUnderstanding of MITRE Adversary Tactics, Techniques and Common Knowledge (ATT&CK)\nKnowledge of Computer Network Defense policies, procedures, and regulations\nKnowledge of defense-in-depth principles and general attack stages with respect to network security architecture\nAbility to characterize and analyze network traffic to identify anomalous activity and potential threats to network resources\nAbility to identify and analyze anomalies in network traffic using metadata\nExperience with reconstructing a malicious attack or activity based on network traffic\nExperience examining network topologies to understand data flows through the network\nMust be able to work collaboratively across physical locations\nPreferred Qualifications\nSubstantial knowledge of network device integrity concepts and methodologies\nProficiency with network analysis software (e.g. Wireshark) \nProficiency with carving and extracting information from PCAP data \nProficiency with non-traditional network traffic (e.g. Command and Control) \nProficiency with preserving evidence integrity according to standard operating procedures or national standards\nProficiency with virtualized environments\nDoD 8140.01 IAT Level II, IASAE II, CSSP Analyst, GCIA, GCIH, CSSP Analyst/CSSP Incident Responder, CEH\nSANS GIAC GNFA preferred","description_format":"text","description_chars":3418,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["National Security","Information Security","IT Consulting & Digital Transformation","Custom Software Development"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-10T20:17:15Z"}],"liveness":{"score":10,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.352,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":80,"expected_fill_days":38,"reasons":["conf:1","stale_co","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-09-30T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/arsiem-network-based-systems-analyst-iii","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/arsiem-network-based-systems-analyst-iii.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T03:05:31Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2574,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":2426,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
