This role partners closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Facilities, Engineering, Process Development, Research, and other functional teams to maintain a safe and compliant workplace while supporting cGMP operations. The EHS Manager will develop and implement programs, policies, training, and systems designed to minimize workplace risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a strong culture of safety.\nResponsibilities\nLead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company-wide EHS programs, policies, procedures, and training.\nServe as the primary EHS subject matter expert and partner with site leadership and functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards.\nEnsure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and requirements, including OSHA, EPA, DEP, and other applicable agencies.\nConduct workplace safety inspections, risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs/JSAs), and ergonomic evaluations and recommend corrective and preventive actions.\nManage incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up for workplace injuries, near misses, spills, and other safety events.\nDevelop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs, including new-hire orientation, contractor training, respiratory protection, role-specific training, and web-based options covering relevant regulatory topics.\nManage hazardous materials, chemical safety, hazardous waste, biological safety, and related environmental compliance programs.\nOversee biosafety programs, including risk assessments for biological materials, biosafety level determinations, and coordination with institutional biosafety processes as applicable.\nMaintain and oversee Safety Data Sheets, chemical inventories, hazard communication, PPE requirements, and laboratory and manufacturing safety programs.\nPartner with Facilities and Engineering on emergency preparedness, fire and life safety, contractor safety, equipment safety, and facility-related EHS initiatives.\nSupport biosafety and laboratory safety programs appropriate for biotechnology and advanced therapy operations.\nCoordinate emergency response planning, drills, evacuation procedures, and business continuity-related safety activities.\nFacilitate safety committees and promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.\nManage occupational health and safety requirements and coordinate with HR and external partners as appropriate for workers' compensation and return-to-work matters.\nTrack, analyze, and report EHS metrics, trends, incidents, and corrective actions to leadership; maintain a compliance calendar and required EHS records, permits, documentation, and regulatory reporting.\nSupport internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and client or partner assessments related to EHS.\nPartner with Quality and operational teams to ensure EHS requirements are appropriately integrated into cGMP activities and change management processes.\nManage external EHS consultants, service providers, and vendors as needed.\nAdvance a proactive safety culture through best practices, employee engagement activities, sustainability initiatives, continuous improvement of EHS programs, and identification of operational efficiencies.\nRemain current on changes to EHS regulations and industry best practices and recommend updates to company programs as needed.\nPerform other EHS-related responsibilities and projects as assigned.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.\nApproximately 5-8 years of progressive EHS experience, preferably within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, manufacturing, laboratory, or other regulated environments.\nWorking knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Massachusetts environmental and workplace safety requirements, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.\nExperience supporting laboratory, manufacturing, and/or cGMP environments strongly preferred.\nDemonstrated experience developing and implementing EHS programs, policies, procedures, and employee training.\nExperience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning.\nKnowledge of hazardous materials management, hazardous waste, chemical safety, emergency response, and occupational safety programs.\nStrong project management, organizational, and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.\nStrong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to partner effectively with employees and leaders across all levels of the organization.\nAbility to communicate complex regulatory and safety requirements clearly and practically.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work independently while operating effectively in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.\nProfessional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP, or similar credentials are preferred but not required.\nPhysical / Work Requirements\nThis is an on-site position requiring regular presence in laboratory, manufacturing, office, and facility environments.\nAbility to conduct facility inspections and respond to safety-related matters throughout the site.\nMay require occasional work outside normal business hours to support incidents, emergency response, training, or operational needs.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5698,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Mental Health","Biotechnology","Health Care","Pharmaceuticals"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-12T08:30:30Z"}],"liveness":{"score":65,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.723,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":26,"expected_fill_days":42,"reasons":["conf:6","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-09-24T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/artisbiosolutions-manager-environmental-health-safety-ehs","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/artisbiosolutions-manager-environmental-health-safety-ehs.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-24T19:51:15Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers"}}
