Ascot exists to solve for our clients’ brightest tomorrow, through agility, collaboration, resilience, and discipline.\nJob Purpose:\nTo develop, underwrite and manage the Environmental account, delivering sustainable growth and profitability in line with the business unit’s strategic plan and delegated underwriting authority.\nDetailed Duties:\nExecute on Ascot’s Environmental go-to-market business plan.\nGrow and scale a book of business within the Syndicate’s existing Casualty portfolio. \nManage the profitability, growth, and retention of the portfolio through execution of individual risk underwriting and adherence to the strategic plan of the business unit. \nCollaborate with Ascot Group colleagues in London and the US .\nBuild underwriting guidelines, forms library and marketing materials.\nUnderwrite and negotiate complex Site Pollution and Contractors Pollution Liability policies to minimize risk and maximize profitability.\nMonitor premiums, costs and claims ratios per contract and take corrective measures if necessary to ensure long-term profitability at account level.\nWork independently within delegated underwriting authority and make referrals as required. \nCultivate and maintain relationships with Ascot peers, leaders, and internal partners across functional areas to identify cross-selling opportunities, rate adequacy and operational excellence.\nFoster and maintain external relationships with brokers to market and sell Ascot’s products. \nOperate with underwriting integrity by adhering to the Environmental guidelines, with the goal of achieving profitability over top-line growth.\nProvide meaningful and constructive feedback to regional and home-office management to improve processes, identify efficiencies and be more relevant to the customer.\n\nAnalyze internally generated and third-party data to improve the underwriter productivity of the group and the broker experience.\n\nPerform other duties as assigned.\n\nCommit to The Ascot Way: Embody The Ascot Wayin their daily interaction with colleagues, fostering colleague engagement and development, collaboration, inclusivity, and individual accountability.\n\nCompliance\nEnsure compliance with broker security requirements. Check that individual brokers adhere to their individual credit limits and that a TOBA is in place prior to quoting business with an unauthorised broker.\nEnsure compliance with Lloyds licencing requirements\nAssist with completion of sanctions checks\nCompletion of annual compliance training\nCompliance bulletin review and action, where required.\nEnsure that Downgrade Clauses comply with Ascot’s Down Grade Clause Policy.\nAdministration\nEnsure that the account administration is at all times up to date for relevant class(es), including responding to queries raised by Administrators promptly.\nWork closely with Assistants and accept overall responsibility for administration.\nEnsure Claims data discrepancies between submission and S2000 are reported.\n\nFacultative Reinsurance Purchasing\nEnsure that the purchasing of facultative reinsurance is done so in accordance with the RI purchase procedures.\nEnsure that any agreed endorsements that could affect the facultative reinsurance programme are notified to the reinsurance team.\n\nWork closely with the Reinsurance Department to ensure all cover notes are logged onto the system and to ensure overall compliance with the latest Reinsurance procedures.\nAggregates\nCheck that there is available aggregate prior to quoting.\nEnsure that all aggregate information is recorded at the required level of detail.\nAttendance\nAttendance at the monthly underwriter meetings.\nAttendance at monthly Claims meetings.\nCredit Control\nManage the credit control issues for the class(es) including close liaison with Assistant Underwriters, Capita and brokers.\nMarketing\nDevelop and maintain relationships with key brokers within the insurance market.\nDevelop and maintain relationships with clients.\nRepresent Ascot at appropriate market groups and committees.\nWorking Knowledge of Systems\n\nCrystal/Lloyds QA Tool\nS2000 (Subscribe)\nSwordfish\nGAAP\nOther duties\n\nAd-hoc duties as directed by line management.\nImplementation of new procedures.\nRequirements:\nMinimum of 8 years of underwriting experience.\nExperience with monoline Environmental products including Site Pollution and Contractors Pollution liability. \nDeep knowledge of Environmental insurance products, insurance regulations and the insurance industry.\nStrong collaborative and critical thinking skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.\nExcellent organizational, desk management and prioritization skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.\nMust be positive, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.\nPossess strong technical, analytical, and quantitative skills.\nExcellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.\nSolution oriented team player with a strong relationship management skill set working with both internal and external stakeholders and customers.\nProficient in Microsoft Office. \nPlease be aware that Ascot Group’s job opportunities will be posted on our official careers page.
