About the Department:

The Information Technology (IT) Department at Ashesi University provides strategic leadership, reliable infrastructure, and user-focused services that enable teaching, learning, research, and administrative excellence. The department manages campus-wide networks, data centers, enterprise applications (including student information and learning management systems), cybersecurity, audiovisual systems, classroom technologies, and IT support services. Working closely with academic and administrative units, the IT team develops and implements technology solutions, ensure data privacy and compliance, and drives digital transformation initiatives to support the university’s mission of educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders for Africa. The department values collaboration, innovation, professional development, and excellent customer service.

About the Role:

Lead IT compliance, governance and risk management activities to ensure technology operations meet institutional policy, legal and cybersecurity standards; drive controls, audits and remediation.

Reports To:Assistant Director - Network Security

Key Responsibilities includes but not limited to the following:

  • Develop, implement and maintain IT compliance and governance frameworks, policies and procedures aligned to institutional requirements and applicable laws (e.g., Data Protection Act).
  • Lead periodic compliance audits, risk assessments and gap analyses across systems, software licensing, access controls and data handling practices; produce findings and actionable remediation plans.
  • Manage software license compliance, asset inventories and vendor contract compliance related to IT services.
  • Oversee incident response preparedness: support development and testing of incident response, disaster recovery and business continuity plans with IT leadership.
  • Work closely with IT security teams to identify, prioritize and mitigate technical and procedural security risks.
  • Monitor user access, privileged accounts and change control practices; recommend and enforce access control improvements.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, regulatory bodies and partners on IT compliance matters and audit responses.
  • Maintain compliance documentation, audit logs and regular management reporting on compliance posture, trends and risk metrics.
  • Provide expert guidance and awareness training to teams and stakeholders to promote compliance adoption.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Security, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in IT governance, compliance, security audit or related roles.
  • Professional certifications such as ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor, CISA, CISSP or equivalent will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient knowledge of data protection laws, cybersecurity principles and IT governance frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, auditing and documentation skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills (technical and non-technical audiences).
  • High integrity, attention to detail and ability to lead cross-functional compliance initiatives.
