The team partners closely with Finance, Technology, Supply Chain, Logistics and External Advisors to ensure compliance, manage risk and deliver value across the business.\n Senior Data Engineer - Indirect Tax & Customs\nLondon | Hybrid - 3 days per week in office | Permanent\nThe Opportunity\nWe're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help us rethink how data and technology are used across Indirect Tax & Customs.\nIn a high-volume global e-commerce business, tax outcomes are created across millions of transactions and multiple systems spanning customer orders, payments, fulfilment, logistics, customs, returns and finance.\nWe want to connect that data.\nYou'll work directly with Indirect Tax & Customs specialists and with Data, Technology, Finance and Supply Chain teams to build scalable data products, automated controls and analytics that solve real business problems.\nThis isn't a traditional tax role. You don't need to be a VAT or customs expert.\nWe're looking for a strong data engineer who is curious about complex business processes and wants to use technology to fundamentally change how they work.\nWhat You'll Do\nYou'll help us build a trusted data foundation connecting the complete transaction lifecycle:\nOrder → Payment → Fulfilment → Shipment → Customs → Tax → Return → Accounting → Compliance\nYou'll:\nDesign and build scalable data pipelines across complex transactional systems\nDevelop reusable data models supporting tax, customs, finance and supply-chain outcomes\nAutomate reconciliations currently dependent on manual data manipulation\nBuild controls that analyse complete transaction populations and identify exceptions\nConnect ERP, e-commerce, logistics, customs and tax datasets\nDevelop analytics and dashboards that identify risk and financial opportunities\nImprove data quality, lineage and auditability\nExplore opportunities to use automation, machine learning and AI to solve tax and customs challenges.\nYou'll have the opportunity to work on problems such as:\nCan every customs declaration be matched back to the correct shipment and transaction?\nAre all transactions reaching the correct VAT reporting process?\nCan we automatically identify import VAT that hasn't been recovered?\nCan we detect unusual tax outcomes before they become compliance issues?\nCan we use data to identify customs duty savings or recovery opportunities?\nWhat We're Looking For\nYou'll bring strong technical data engineering experience, including:\nExpert T-SQL skills including performance tuning - Microsoft SQL Server\nETL/ELT pipelines - Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Fabric\nData-warehousing, dimensional modelling, and dimensional data mart design\nBuilding analytics and dashboards in Power BI\nAPIs and integrations\nLarge-scale transactional datasets\nAlteryx or similar analytics automation tools, including building governed, repeatable workflows for data ingestion, transformation, validation, reconciliation and exception reporting\nData quality and automated testing\nModern development and version-control practices -
