Join a community committed to driving forward the future of energy.\n The Opportunity\nHinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. The HPC Commissioning Programme is expanding in as we begin commissioning HPC, the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK in a generation.\nThe Commissioning Environment Engineer is part of a team of CommOps Industrial and Fire Safety professionals team. The post holder will report to the Commissioning Environment Lead and will work closely with Commissioning Delivery teams across the project to enable them to carry out their critical work in a manner that minimises our impact on the environment.\nThe Commissioning Environment Engineer will also be responsible for promoting adherence to and compliance with all applicable statutory Environmental legislative requirements, along with identifying and providing guidance on matters relating to Environmental non-compliances. They will provide advice and guidance to ensure smooth reporting and resolution of environmental safety issues. This will include planning, delivering and reviewing environmental compliance activities, conducting environmental assurance and surveillance on the HPC Site, and supporting delivery of technical workstreams within the field of environmental safety.\nAs part of the role, you will collaborate with a range of safety focused professionals, including specialists in Industrial Safety, Fire Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Chemistry and Quality management. Together, you will contribute to the overall HPC CommOps safety arrangements. Building strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the HPC project will be crucial in ensuring well-defined and controlled interfaces with the commissioning safety process.\nThe Commissioning Environment Engineer will also liaise closely with the network of environmental professionals within HPC and EDF Energy, including but not limited to the Pre-Operations Environment Team, NNB Principal Contractor Environment Team, and the NNB Client Environment Team.\nKey responsibilities:\nCreate, maintain and improve Environmental Safety controls to address risks across the Commissioning programme.\nAssist in the monitoring, coordination and review of Environmental activities in accordance with the HPC Safety Management System and CommOps Environmental Management Plans.\nProduce Environmental safety performance reports, ensuring all performance data is provided to the Commissioning Environment Lead and Commissioning Managers in accordance with agreed timeframes, including identification of trends, early warnings of possible issues, and recommendation of remedial actions.\nPositively engage with and influence the Commissioning programme on key Environmental issues/risks/Hazards relating to the Commissioning process.\nSupport Regulatory Interfaces.\nUndertake and review risk-based assessments, Environmental safety inspections and Environmental safety assurance activities.\nProvide assurance on compliance with applicable legal duties.\nBe an effective and participative member of a community of Health, Safety and Environmental professionals across the HPC Project.\nSupport Emergency Preparedness and effective Environmental Incident Management to help ensure that the HPC project is delivered in a manner that protects the environment and our community.\n Essential\nDegree qualified (or an equivalent level of experience) in an Environment related discipline.\nExcellent communication skills with the ability to develop wide network and working relationships within EDF.\nExperience or understanding of environmental compliance arrangements in a regulated industry.\nExperience of writing, implementing or/and reviewing environmental specifications and environmental risk assessments.\nKnowledge of the legal environmental permitting and waste management framework within the UK.\nKnowledge of groundwater, surface water and soil assessment and monitoring.\nStrong focus on identifying Environmental risks and implications, and communication skills to present complex concepts and data in a way that is readily understood and actionable.\nAble to produce high quality records and reports, providing assurance through communication of Environmental data and information to a range of stakeholders.\nAbility to engage with others on environmental issues and provide practical advice on how technical issues should be addressed.\nHolds CTC level security clearance or the ability to obtain this.\nDesirable\nChartered membership of a relevant professional body or working toward membership.\nExperience of working within a construction environment.\nExperience or understanding of radiological and non-radiological environmental compliance arrangements in the nuclear power industry.\nExperience of interface with UK regulators (ONR / EA).\nExperience in site investigation and land contamination assessment.\nExperience in Water Framework Directive and Habitats Regulations assessments.Note: this job description is not an exhaustive list of the responsibilities and activities that the job holder may be required to undertake.\n\n Why Apply?\nJoin Assystem and become a key player in delivering critical nuclear projects that shape the future of energy.
