We provide a unified system for structured and unstructured data, enabling researchers to perform relational querying and manage large-scale datasets. A key feature is the standardisation of metadata (for instance, with DCAT and OMOP CDMs), which allows for consistent and intuitive data exploration. This breaks down silos between diverse datasets and facilitates cross-dataset ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for advanced analysis. All functionalities are exposed via API endpoints to ensure seamless integration with existing research workflows and tools.\nRole Summary:\nWe are seeking a talented and motivated Software Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in the design, development, and deployment of the BDH digital platform. You will be responsible for building a scalable and robust system that will be used by biomedical researchers, data analysts, and IT teams to accelerate data-driven discoveries.\nWhy Join Us?\nImpact: The opportunity to work on a mission-driven project that has a direct and lasting impact on biomedical research and patient outcomes.\nGreenfield Project: A chance to build a cutting-edge platform from the ground up, with significant influence on its technical direction and architecture.\nTech Stack: Work with a modern, best-in-class tech stack.\nGrowth: A collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and learning at the intersection of software engineering and bioinformatics.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDesign, develop, test and maintain high-performance, containerised microservices using Python (FastAPI) for the BDH digital platform.\nBuild and manage data ingestion pipelines for both structured and unstructured biomedical data.\nDevelop and integrate tools for metadata standardisation (e.g. DCAT, including data dictionary generation and OMOP CDM mapping).\nCreate and maintain RESTful APIs for data upload, query, and ETL processes.\nCollaborate with bioinformaticians and researchers to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements.\nContribute to the development of a secure, scalable, and reliable infrastructure for the BDH digital platform.\nParticipate in code reviews and contribute to a high standard of software engineering best practices, including comprehensive automated testing, CI/CD via GitHub actions, and thorough documentation.\nRequired Qualifications\nMinimum bachelor's degree or diploma in the field of computer science, computer engineering, or other web programming intensive course.\nExpertise in at least one of the following areas: creating, maintaining, implementing RESTful APIs, front-end development, microservices architecture.\n2+ years of experience in software development, with a strong proficiency in Python (and/or Node.js) and its data processing ecosystem (e.g. Pandas, SQLAlchemy)\nExperience with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and object storage (e.g. Amazon S3)\nSolid understand of software engineering principles, including data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.\nExcellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills (proficiency in spoken/written English).\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with DCAT, the OMOP common data model or other healthcare data standards.\nFamiliarity with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.\nExperience with API frameworks like FastAPI or Node.js frameworks like Express.\nKnowledge of front-end technologies such as React.\nExperience working in a collaborative, agile development environment.\nExperience working in a regulated environment (e.g. healthcare compliance, data privacy).\nKnowledge of security best practices, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and data encryption standards.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3940,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":2,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"All levels","optional":false}]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-25T18:38:00Z"}],"liveness":{"score":87,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.871,"p_room":1,"age_days":5,"expected_fill_days":20,"reasons":["conf:8","velocity","win:early","comp:junior,brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/astar-software-engineer-bdh","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/astar-software-engineer-bdh.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T10:27:38Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1595,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":3405,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
