Discover more at www.asteralabs.com.\nAstera Labs is looking for a hands-on software engineer to own and improve the internal platforms behind our manufacturing data, hardware test infrastructure, test automation, and failure analysis. This role brings together software, data, infrastructure, and hardware operations. It is central to helping engineering and manufacturing teams move quickly with reliable test data they can act on.\nYou will support systems that collect and organize test and manufacturing data from internal labs and manufacturing partners. You will also maintain test automation and failure-analysis tools, improve monitoring across services, and build practical tools that help engineers identify root causes faster. This role includes taking ownership of working systems already in place, making them more reliable and easier to maintain, and extending them to support new products, test flows, and manufacturing sites.\nWhy this role matters: Strong data and test infrastructure helps engineering teams find failures faster, improve product quality, reduce manual investigation, and scale operations without creating bottlenecks.\nWhat You'll Do\nManufacturing and Test Data Platforms:\nBuild, own, and improve data pipelines that collect, standardize, and organize manufacturing and test data.\nIntegrate data from multiple internal and external sources, including lab test systems and manufacturing partners.\nImprove data quality, pipeline reliability, handling of changing formats, and visibility into pipeline health.\nAdd support for new products, data sources, and manufacturing partners with minimal manual effort.\nMake the tools engineers use to access and analyze data faster and easier to use.\nTest Automation and Failure Analysis\nMaintain and improve automation systems that support hardware validation and production testing.\nKeep build, test, and release workflows manageable, repeatable, and version controlled.\nOperate and improve automated tools that process results, classify failures, and route issues to the right teams.\nReduce repetitive debugging through better classification, dashboards, and internal tooling.\nInfrastructure, Reliability, and Monitoring\nOperate services on Linux-based infrastructure using containers and cloud-hosted systems.\nSupport core platform services such as storage, scheduled jobs, and deployment automation.\nBuild and improve monitoring, alerting, and dashboards so issues are detected early.\nStrengthen day-to-day operations with runbooks, alert tuning, and safer rollout practices.\nInternal Tools and Cross-Functional Support\nSupport and extend shared telemetry and logging systems.\nBuild practical tools that help engineers explore logs, look up records, and diagnose failures faster.\nHelp build automated or AI-assisted debugging tools where they provide clear value.\nAct as a technical point of contact for issues involving manufacturing data and test platforms.\nWork closely with hardware, firmware, test, IT, and external partners to resolve system and data issues.\n\nWhat Success Looks Like \nNew manufacturing and test data sources are added quickly and reliably.\nEngineers can access trusted data without relying on specialized support.\nTest automation and failure-analysis systems are stable, understandable, and maintainable.\nOperational issues are detected early through effective dashboards and alerts.\nDocumentation and tooling are strong enough to support shared ownership across the team.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a rated field \n3+ years building and operating backend systems, data systems, developer infrastructure, or internal platforms \nStrong Python skills, including production services, scripts, libraries, or automation tools \nExperience with large-scale data processing and structured data pipelines \nPractical understanding of changing data formats, data quality challenges, and production data collection \nExperience with relational, analytical, or streaming data systems \nExperience supporting CI/CD systems, Git-based workflows, Linux environments, and containerized or cloud-based services \nExperience with monitoring and observability tools, and the ability to balance operations with longer-term engineering improvements \nPreferred Qualifications\nMS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering\nExperience in semiconductors, hardware test, manufacturing test, or a similar engineering environment \nFamiliarity with production test data, yield analysis, or manufacturing diagnostics \nExperience with public cloud services and secure external data exchange workflows \nExperience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools \nExperience integrating collaboration and issue-tracking systems into automated workflows \nExperience working with external vendors, labs, or manufacturing partners \nInterest in AI-assisted failure analysis, debugging workflows, or internal knowledge tools \nStrong interest in building durable internal platforms that scale with engineering and manufacturing needs \nSalary range is $135,000 to $170,000 depending on experience, level, and business need.
