Job Description

Role description & typical accountabilities

  • Responsible for executing Medical Affairs Plans within the assigned therapeutic area for pre-launch and newly launched products or indications. The role drives scientific engagement and builds strategic partnerships with external experts and internal stakeholders to shape clinical practice, improve patient outcomes, and support the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca Rare Disease medicines.
  • As an internal- and external-facing medical role, this position provides clinical and scientific expertise for new assets, strengthens AstraZeneca’s scientific leadership, and works cross-functionally to accelerate the rollout of NMEs and Line Extensions.
  • You will drive scientific engagement within the assigned therapeutic area (RD) by building trusted relationships with HCPs, key external experts, and relevant stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem. You will maintain strong scientific expertise, contribute to the Field Medical Strategic Plan, deliver high-quality scientific exchange, and provide balanced, non-promotional medical information.
  • Leads medical strategy for new assets through Phase 3 readout by generating scientific and real-world insights to support development, registration, access, and early market shaping.
  • You will generate actionable insights from the external environment to inform medical and product strategy, support evidence-generation activities, and collaborate on scientific initiatives such as advisory boards, educational meetings, study proposals, and publications. You will also use digital and innovative approaches to enhance engagement and ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with internal standards and external regulations.

Skills

  • Scientific degree, preferably an advanced degree in relevant scientific discipline
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across multiple channels
  • Strong project management skills
  • High level of analytical and conceptual thinking
  • Ability to engage with and manage a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Broad understanding of key aspects of Medical Affairs
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmaceutical sales and marketing

Qualifications

  • Education: Doctoral degree in scientific discipline (e.g. M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D.)
  • Language: Fluent in English communication
  • Work Experience: Medical/Scientific knowledge and appropriate experience in clinical practice, medical affairs and/or clinical operations (more than 5 years), experience with Rare Disease is preferred
