As a Senior Maintenance Engineer, you will join the project during the facility build and operational readiness phase, helping to ensure equipment, utilities and maintenance systems are designed for long-term reliability, efficiency and compliance. As the site transitions into commercial operations, you will become a technical expert within the Engineering and Maintenance team, driving equipment reliability, continuous improvement and operational excellence across the facility.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading improvement initiatives and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver world-class manufacturing performance.

What You'll Be Doing

During Facility Build and Start-Up

You will work within a cross-functional project team to ensure maintenance and reliability principles are embedded into the design and commissioning of the new APICOM facility. Responsibilities will include:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the technical expert for equipment under your remit supporting day to day operations and NPI.
  • Leading equipment troubleshooting, root cause investigations and reliability improvements.
  • Providing frontline engineering support to maintenance technicians and operations teams.
  • Managing external service providers and specialist contractors.
  • Supporting delivery of manufacturing campaigns while ensuring GMP, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Leading engineering change controls and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing long-term asset reliability strategies.
  • Monitoring engineering KPIs and driving improvements in equipment availability, efficiency and performance.
  • Supporting shutdown planning and execution activities.
  • Sharing best practice and lessons learned across AstraZeneca manufacturing sites.

Drive Reliability and Continuous Improvement

A key focus of this role is improving asset performance through data-driven decision making and operational excellence methodologies.

You will:

  • Lead Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities on critical assets.
  • Develop and implement equipment improvement plans to reduce repeat failures.
  • Apply reliability-centred maintenance principles and maintenance optimisation techniques.
  • Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), 5S and Lean initiatives.
  • Use digital tools and performance analytics to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve throughput, quality, cost efficiency and sustainability.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement across engineering and operations teams.

At AstraZeneca, safety and quality are at the heart of everything we do.

You will:

  • Promote a strong safety culture where everyone feels responsible for creating a safe workplace.
  • Lead and support equipment-related investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP requirements, company standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Support environmental sustainability and energy reduction initiatives.
  • Drive adherence to standard operating procedures and engineering best practices.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, API manufacturing or a highly regulated industry.

  • Experience managing engineering change control processes.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and use insights to improve equipment performance.
