We focus on the discovery, development and delivery of life-changing medicines for patients, while working to minimize the environmental impact of our activities. We are proud of a culture that inspires innovation and collaboration, empowers colleagues to express diverse perspectives, and ensures that people feel valued and respected for their ideas and creativity.\nAt AstraZeneca, we are united by a common purpose: to push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines. Every single day, we make a difference by delivering potentially life-changing medicines to millions of people globally and by leading breakthrough science that promises to transform the treatment of disease. Our purpose is ambitious and so is our approach. Becoming a more agile and creative company means building a dynamic, inspiring culture where we celebrate diverse, bold thinking and act with a sense of urgency. We are curious, creative, and open to new ideas and ways of working.\nWe work together across global boundaries to make an impact and find answers to challenges. We do this with the utmost integrity, including in difficult situations, because we are committed to doing the right thing. We believe in the potential of our people and actively support colleagues to develop and achieve more than they thought possible.\nTechnical Operations Science & Innovation (TOSI) provides scientific and engineering expertise to support the manufacture, continuous improvement, and lifecycle management of AstraZeneca products, working across internal manufacturing sites, external suppliers, and cross-functional product teams to strengthen process understanding, resolve technical challenges, and ensure reliable product supply. This global role is based at AstraZeneca's strategic U.S. Oral Solid Dose manufacturing site, which also serves as a key hub for the introduction of new manufacturing technologies.\nWhat you can expect\nThis role offers the opportunity to apply and broaden your experience in the technical support of commercial pharmaceutical products and manufacturing processes. You will work on real-world technical challenges that directly affect product supply, process robustness and lifecycle management.\nYou can expect to:\nApply and extend your capability in mechanistic and physics-informed process modelling through relevant product and project work.\nCollaborate with experienced engineers and specialists in process engineering, materials science, PAT, data science, equipment engineering and pharmaceutical development.\nTranslate physical understanding into mathematical descriptions, identify the data needed to test model assumptions, and apply models to support technical decisions.\nGain exposure to a broad range of products, manufacturing technologies and sites while working with internal teams and external partners.\nTake ownership of increasingly complex work packages and broaden your technical leadership responsibilities.\nKey Responsibilities:\nProvide process engineering support to a prioritized portfolio of commercial products manufactured at AstraZeneca sites and by external partners.\nPlan and deliver defined technical work packages, working with manufacturing sites and cross-functional specialists.\nApply engineering fundamentals and structured problem-solving to understand manufacturing processes and resolve process or equipment-related issues.\nDevelop and test mechanistic explanations of process behavior using calculations, experimental evidence and manufacturing data.\nDevelop and apply quantitative process descriptions, including mass and energy balances, scale-up relationships and, where appropriate, mechanistic or physics-informed models.\nSupport product transfers, process changes and other activities that protect supply and improve manufacturing robustness.\nCommunicate technical reasoning, assumptions, uncertainties and recommendations clearly in reports and discussions with stakeholders.\nEssential Skills and Experience\nB.S./M.S. with at least three years of relevant experience in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics or another relevant quantitative discipline.\nStrong understanding of engineering or physical-science fundamentals and the ability to apply them to real processes.\nEvidence of curiosity about why processes behave as they do, with a structured approach to identifying and testing possible mechanisms.\nAbility to analyze data quantitatively, make well-reasoned judgments and explain conclusions, assumptions and limitations clearly.\nAbility to plan and deliver technical work, collaborate effectively and develop new technical capabilities.\nDesirable Skills and Experience\nPhD preferred\nEvidence of exploring a process, system or physical phenomenon mechanistically and expressing that understanding quantitatively.\nExperience using engineering calculations, mathematical models or simulations to understand or predict behavior.\nExperience designing experiments or analyzing data to test hypotheses, distinguish between mechanisms or estimate model parameters.\nFamiliarity with a modelling or programming environment such as Python, MATLAB, gPROMS, DEM or equivalent tools.\nKnowledge of relevant areas such as transport phenomena, particle or powder mechanics, residence-time behavior, population balances, scale-up or equipment-material interactions.\nJoin us in building a new kind of organization and resetting expectations of what a biopharmaceutical company can be. If you are interested in applying engineering science to meaningful manufacturing challenges, we encourage you to apply.\nDate Posted\n14-Oct-2026Closing Date\n05-Nov-2026Our mission is to build an inclusive environment where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and employees. In furtherance of that mission, we welcome and consider applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of their protected characteristics.
