We apply aerospace engineering and quality standards across our products, delivering high performance, reliability, and efficiency for the most demanding operating environments. Astro Mechanica is backed by leading venture and strategic investors, including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Giant Step Capital, United Airlines Ventures, and Voyager Ventures.\nWHO WE ARE:\nWe’re a team of passionate engineers dedicated to advancing aerospace. We’re generalists with specialist depth, united by a flat structure and a shared obsession with building things that work well. We move fast, stay pragmatic, and let engineering excellence speak louder than hierarchy.\nWHO YOU ARE:\nAstro Mechanica is seeking an intern to join our Electrical Engineering and Avionics Team for the summer of 2027 (program begins on June 7, 2027 for semester schools and June 27, 2027 for quarter schools). The ideal candidate is excited to help design, build, and improve the electrical subsystems for our engines and aircraft. Your work will bridge hardware and software at a formative stage of development and will involve frequent cross-discipline problem solving. As an intern, you’ll be embedded with the avionics team in San Francisco, working on real flight and test hardware alongside full-time engineers.\nIn this role, your mission will be to help take avionics designs from concept through validation, with mentorship from senior engineers along the way. You’ll learn how to build avionics that interface reliably with other systems using fault-tolerant design, and how to prove them out through rigorous subsystem and integration testing before anything leaves the ground. You embody the test-like-you-fly philosophy.\nWHAT YOU’LL DO:\nSupport the design and build-out of electrical avionics systems, including in-house designed boards, for flight hardware and ground test infrastructure, including hardware-in-the-loop test beds\n\nAssist with electrical avionics component selection, analysis, and integration\n\nDesign, build, and test wire harnesses and associated sub-components\n\nInstall, configure, and troubleshoot sensors and electronic components\n\nWrite scripts and tools (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate testing, data collection, and hardware bring-up\n\nSupport subsystem and integration testing, and analyze data to verify requirements and performance\n\nWork with software, GNC, propulsion, and structures engineers to define and support electrical interfaces\n\nOwn a scoped project through the summer and present your results to the team at the end of the internship\n\nWHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline\n\nClub, project, research, or internship hands-on experience with electrical or avionics systems\n\nExperience with wire harnesses, connectors, and soldering or crimping\n\nFamiliarity with installing and troubleshooting electronic sensors and components\n\nCompetence with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)\n\nExposure to schematic capture or PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad)\n\nExperience with Python, Bash, or a similar language for scripting and test automation\n\nFamiliarity with embedded systems and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet)\n\nAttentive to detail and committed to a high level of quality in all work\n\nFlexibility to work in a fast-paced environment\n\nAvailable for a full-time, in-person internship in San Francisco during Summer 2027 (approximately 10-12 weeks)\n\nPERKS & BENEFITS:\nCompetitive hourly pay\n\nHands-on mentorship from experienced engineers\n\nCompany-funded perks, including team lunches, game nights, and other activities\n\nADDITIONAL INFORMATION:\nAt Astro Mechanica, we highly value in-office work to foster collaboration and strengthen our company culture. We consider working in the office five days a week an essential part of the employee's role.\nAstro Mechanica is an equal opportunity employer. We proudly recruit and hire a diverse workforce and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4325,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Space & Aerospace","Aerospace Manufacturing","Aircraft Manufacturing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-11-02T23:20:54Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":90,"reasons":["conf:2","velocity","win:early","comp:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-11-05T05:54:30Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":110000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/astro-mechanica-electricalavionics-engineering-intern","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/astro-mechanica-electricalavionics-engineering-intern.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-05T21:47:46Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2103,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-06T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":171729},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=171729"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fastro-mechanica-electricalavionics-engineering-intern"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fastro-mechanica-electricalavionics-engineering-intern"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fastro-mechanica-electricalavionics-engineering-intern"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/astro-mechanica-electricalavionics-engineering-intern\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fastro-mechanica-electricalavionics-engineering-intern"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3647681}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"astromecha.co","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3647681},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
