Summary of Responsibilities:

At American Transmission Co. (ATC), our work is about more than building infrastructure. We help deliver reliable electricity to millions of people across the region. As a Construction Manager, you'll be on the front lines of that mission, leading the safe execution of transmission line and substation projects that strengthen and modernize the electric grid.

If you're a hands-on construction professional who thrives in the field, enjoys solving complex challenges, values safety above all else, and takes pride in delivering quality work, we want to hear from you.

Essential Responsibilities:

What You'll Do

As a Construction Manager, you'll serve as ATC's field representative, coordinating contractors, crews, and stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to plan.

Lead Safe Construction Execution

  • Provide on-site construction oversight for transmission line and substation projects.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with technical specifications, contracts, environmental requirements, and quality standards.
  • Identify and remove barriers that could impact project schedules or field productivity.
  • Provide leadership and direction to contractors and construction crews to support successful project outcomes.

Champion Safety

  • Serve as a visible safety leader in the field.
  • Observe work practices and reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Conduct safety conversations and address unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with OSHA requirements and ATC safety expectations.
  • Promote a culture where everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.

Manage Contractors & Field Resources

  • Review contractor daily reports and weekly attestations.
  • Validate labor, equipment, and material charges.
  • Ensure work is performed according to contract requirements and project expectations.
  • Coordinate construction activities among contractors and ATC functional groups.
  • Support construction scope changes through ATC's established field change management process.

Drive Quality & Project Performance

  • Monitor construction quality and adherence to design requirements.
  • Prepare contractor performance evaluations and project status reports.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, material planning, and project readiness activities.
  • Ensure project closeout activities, documentation, and as-built records are completed accurately.

Build Relationships

  • Partner with Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Environmental, and Safety teams.
  • Communicate construction activities with customers, landowners, and stakeholders.
  • Develop solutions that balance operational, customer, environmental, and project requirements.

What You'll Bring

Required Education

  • High school diploma or GED.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of transmission construction, distribution construction, or related utility construction experience.
  • Experience supporting field construction activities, contractor oversight, or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with contractors, customers, and project stakeholders.
  • Experience reviewing plans, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and construction technology tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel across our footprint

Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of transmission line and/or substation construction practices.
  • Knowledge of contractor management and contract compliance.
  • Familiarity with labor, equipment, and material management.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and field documentation.
  • Understanding of construction quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
