This is a key strategic appointment, offering the opportunity to build and shape a new team within an established multidisciplinary office while contributing to the continued growth of our Building Structures business across the Southwest and wider UK.

You will be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with a proven track record of delivering building structures projects and steering teams. Supported by an established regional and national Building Structures practice, you will have access to specialist expertise, a broad client base and diverse project opportunities, while having the platform to grow and lead a successful structural engineering team.

Your role

  • Establish, develop and grow the structural engineering team in Exeter.

  • Steer the project and design management of multidisciplinary commissions, delivering agreed quality, programme and commercial outcomes.

  • Review calculations, drawings, specifications and other technical deliverables.

  • Develop the technical capability and career progression of engineers across the team.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture.

  • Identify opportunities and direct work-winning activities, including fee proposals, bids and tender submissions.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.

About you

Essential

  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer.

  • Significant experience directing the delivery of building structures projects from concept through detailed design and construction.

  • Demonstrable project, design and commercial management experience within an engineering consultancy.

  • Experience spearheading, developing and motivating engineering teams.

  • Strong client relationship, stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Experience guiding or making a significant contribution to work winning, fee proposals and bids.

  • Ability to take ownership while working collaboratively across a multidisciplinary business.

Desirable skills & attributes

  • Knowledge of the Exeter and Southwest buildings market with an established client and industry network.

  • Experience establishing, directing, or growing a structural engineering team.

  • Experience working across one or more relevant sectors, such as commercial, residential, education, defence, or infrastructure.

  • Strong leadership potential, with the drive to build and develop a successful team.
