Overview
This position is in the Modularization & Constructability team and requires an individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently or under the instruction from another senior technical engineer and develop his/her career and experience in the nuclear field.
The candidate shall be able to follow instructions from an experienced qualified professional engineer, to complete the assigned constructability scopes or tasks and develop necessary engineering design documentation as required.
Your role
- Perform constructability engineering activities for nuclear projects in accordance with QA programs, industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of CANDU construction, pre-assembly, and modularization packages, including construction methods and sequencing.
- Coordinate with clients, suppliers, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver construction-focused design solutions.
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as drawings, calculations, design change packages, technical specifications, constructability assessments, and risk reports.
- Develop construction execution plans covering fabrication, pre-assembly, transportation, installation, procurement support, and supplier technical evaluations.
- Provide technical leadership through site visits, field support, commissioning activities, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
About you
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and a valid P.Eng. designation in Ontario are required; ASME Appendix XXIII qualification is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years of field engineering in heavy industrial environments with a strong focus on constructability.
- Experience with off-site preassembly/prefabrication projects is mandatory, while nuclear industry, construction, and commissioning experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of engineering codes and standards, including CSA N285.0, CSA B51, CSA N289, ASME Section III, and ANSI B31.1, is preferred.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, structural analysis software (STAAD, S-Frame, SAP, MathCad), advanced Excel tools, and engineering database applications is required.
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical, structural, and piping systems, supported by strong technical writing, problem-solving, communication, teamwork skills, and willingness to qualify as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
