This position will provide engineering support as part of a client-embedded team responsible for the planning, design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of statewide ITS systems and the communications infrastructure that supports them.\nThe ideal candidate will have experience with roadway ITS deployments and transportation technology, along with a strong understanding of communications and networking systems. Experience with ITS technologies such as traffic signal systems, CCTV, dynamic message signs (DMS), road weather information systems (RWIS), vehicle detection systems, transportation management center (TMC) operations, connected vehicle technologies, wrong-way driving systems, queue warning systems, and active traffic management systems is desirable.\nThe successful candidate will apply engineering principles to design, operate, and maintain communications, networking, electrical, and supporting infrastructure systems that enable the reliable operation of statewide ITS field devices and transportation technology programs.\nThis role requires close collaboration with client staff, operations and maintenance personnel, vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop practical, reliable, maintainable, and constructible solutions for complex field environments.\nYour role\nSupport the planning, design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of statewide ITS systems and supporting communications infrastructure. \nDesign and develop communications and networking solutions that support roadway ITS deployments, field device connectivity, centralized operations, and transportation technology programs. \nApply knowledge of ITS architectures, transportation technology, field device deployments, communications networks, and operational environments to develop practical engineering solutions. \nDesign and develop engineering plans, technical specifications, scopes of work, layouts, and supporting documentation for ITS communications and infrastructure projects. \nSupport projects involving fiber optic systems, microwave communications systems, Ethernet and IP networks, IP/MPLS transport networks, traffic signal communications, CCTV systems, DMS systems, RWIS deployments, vehicle detection systems, and related ITS technologies. \nSupport engineering efforts associated with electrical power systems, equipment shelters, HVAC systems, lightning protection and grounding systems, emergency generators, DC power systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), access control systems, video surveillance systems, and network management platforms. \nConduct engineering investigations, field assessments, site reviews, planning activities, and technical evaluations to support technology deployments, corrective actions, and system improvements. \nEvaluate existing infrastructure, operational requirements, codes, standards, and client requirements to develop practical, cost-effective, and maintainable solutions. \nPrepare engineering studies, technical memoranda, reports, system requirements, specifications, permit applications, cost estimates, material quantity estimates, and labor-hour estimates. \nProvide engineering support during procurement, implementation, construction, system integration, testing, and commissioning activities. \nPerform inspections and condition assessments of ITS assets and supporting infrastructure to identify deficiencies, validate asset information, and support maintenance and lifecycle replacement planning. \nCollaborate with ITS operations, maintenance, engineering, and information technology personnel to ensure solutions are compatible with operational needs and existing systems. \nParticipate in quality assurance and quality control activities, including design reviews, technical evaluations, drawing reviews, and standards compliance verification. \nPrepare and deliver technical presentations to client staff, management, project teams, and stakeholders. \nPerform other duties as assigned in support of client programs and project delivery. \nAbout you\nExperience with ITS engineering, transportation technology, traffic operations, ITS deployments, TMC operations, traffic signal systems, roadway safety systems, or related transportation technologies. \nExperience with communications and networking technologies used to support ITS deployments, including fiber optic systems, Ethernet networking, IP networking, wireless communications systems, field device connectivity, and network transport technologies. \nUnderstanding of roadway ITS systems such as CCTV, DMS, RWIS, vehicle detection systems, traffic signal communications, connected vehicle technologies, or other transportation technology platforms. \nBachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. \nEngineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred. \nTwo to five years of relevant engineering experience, depending on education level and professional experience. \nStrong technical writing, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. \nProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. \nExperience with CAD, MicroStation, Visio, network diagramming, or similar engineering software preferred. \nExperience with ITS engineering, traffic engineering, transportation technology, traffic operations, traffic signal systems, transportation management center operations, roadway safety systems, or intelligent transportation systems deployment is required. \nRewards & benefits\nAt AtkinsRéalis, our values-Safety, Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation, and Excellence-are more than just words.
