The role involves managing project scope, programme, budget, risk, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure schemes are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Local Authority objectives, statutory requirements, and funding conditions.\nProjects may include highway improvements, active travel schemes, junction upgrades, resurfacing programmes, traffic management initiatives, drainage improvements and structures maintenance.\nYour role\nDelivery of project management and contract administration through the project life cycle, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, programme, cost, and quality requirements.\n\nDevelop and manage project plans, budgets, resource forecasts, and governance reporting.\n\nCoordinate multidisciplinary project teams and manage project interfaces, dependencies, and delivery risks.\n\nPrepare business cases, cost estimates, funding applications, and manage project change control.\n\nMonitor financial performance, expenditure, and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.\n\nLead project meetings, manage approvals, and resolve delivery issues to maintain programme objectives.\n\nManage stakeholder engagement, including elected members, residents, statutory bodies, utility companies, and external partners.\n\nMaintain risk and issue registers, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation.\n\nEnsure compliance with Local Authority governance, CDM Regulations, highways legislation, and environmental requirements.\n\nPromote a strong culture of health, safety, quality, and sustainability.\n\nClear and accurate monitoring and reporting of project performance against programme, technical quality, financial and KPI targets; both internally and externally.\n\nCognisant delivery of projects and tasks in accordance with the AtkinsRéalis Values; Safety, Integrity, Collaboration and Innovation.\n\nManage multiple concurrent projects, providing regular performance updates to the Portfolio Manager and Project Director and contributing to wider highways capital programme development.\n\nAbout you\nDegree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, with proven experience delivering highways, infrastructure, or transportation projects.\n\nHas and clear understanding and experience of construction contracts, particularly NEC4.\n\nExperience delivering capital projects from feasibility through construction and handover to time, cost and quality objectives.\n\nPRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ, or equivalent project management qualification desirable.\n\nDemonstrable experience of budget and programme management.\n\nExperience managing contractor and consultant relationships.\n\nCDM Regulations 2015.\n\nHolds a valid UK driving licence and able to travel to sites across Buckinghamshire if required.\n\nSkills and competencies\nStrong project and programme management skills.\n\nExcellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities.\n\nCommercial and financial awareness.\n\nRisk and issue management.\n\nLeadership and team management.\n\nNegotiation and influencing skills.\n\nAbility to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.\n\nStrong reporting and presentation skills.\n\nProficient in Microsoft Office and project management software.\n\nRewards & benefits\nExplore the rewards and benefits that help you thrive - at every stage of your life and your career.
