This role requires both technical excellence and leadership capability, including mentoring junior engineers and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.\nYour Role\nLighting Design & Engineering\nLead the design and delivery of external lighting systems from concept through detailed design and construction support.\nDevelop lighting layouts, photometric assessments, and lighting control strategies for highways, public realm, and infrastructure projects.\nUndertake lighting calculations using Lighting Reality. Experience with DIALux and AGi32 is desirable.\nPerform electrical load and power calculations using Amtech.\nPrepare lighting layouts, Schematics and wiring diagrams, standard details, Schedules as per MCHW, specifications, design report, Design risk assesment.\nDevelop designs in accordance with MCHW requirements and relevant client standards.\nEnsure compliance with applicable UK standards and industry guidance, including BS5489, BS13201, BS 12464-2, ILP guidelines, BS EN 40, BS7671 and BS7430.\nDeliver passive-safe lighting column designs in accordance with BS EN 12767 and TR30 requirements.\nPromote low-carbon design principles and energy-efficient lighting solutions through the application of modern technologies and smart control systems.\nTechnical Leadership & Coordination\nProvide technical leadership and guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.\nReview and approve lighting calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.\nCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including Higways, Geotech,Drainage, Structures, Technology and Local authorities.\nLiaise with local authorities, stakeholders, and clients to obtain design approvals and ensure compliance with project requirements.\nParticipate in design reviews, project meetings, planning submissions, and client presentations.\nSupport project planning, resource allocation, and programme management to ensure successful project delivery.\nAbout You\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.\nMinimum 7 years of experience in electrical and external lighting design, with significant experience delivering projects within the UK.\nDemonstrated knowledge of UK highways and infrastructure lighting design standards and regulations.\nStrong understanding of Electrical distribution systems, Earthing and bonding, Lighting controls and Energy-efficient design solutions\nProficiency in AutoCAD, Lighting Reality and Amtech.\nExperience with DIALux, AGi32, BIM workflows, and Civil 3D would be advantageous.\nExperience delivering lighting and electrical packages for UK highways, local authority, or infrastructure projects.\nStrong technical and analytical problem-solving skills.\nSound engineering judgement and attention to detail.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nProven client-facing and stakeholder management capabilities.\nAbility to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.\nStrong leadership and mentoring skills.\nCommitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.\nCollaborative and proactive approach to multidisciplinary project delivery.\nExperience working on National Highways, local authority, or major infrastructure projects.\nKnowledge of sustainable and low-carbon lighting design practices.\nUnderstanding of asset management and whole-life cost considerations.\nWorking toward or holding professional accreditation such as IEng or CEng through a relevant professional institution.\n7+ years in UK External Lighting Design\nRewards & Benefits\nExplore the rewards and benefits that help you thrive - at every stage of your life and your career.\nThis includes:\nComprehensive life insurance coverage.\nPremium medical insurance for you and your dependents.\nGenerous annual leave balance.\nFlexible and hybrid work solutions.\nRemote work opportunities outside of country.\nCompany gratuity scheme.\nDiscretionary bonus program.\nRelocation assistance.\nEmployee Wellbeing Program: 24/7 access to specialists in finance, legal matters, family care, personal health, fitness, and nutrition.\nSeize every opportunity to sharpen your skills, expand your expertise, and be recognized for the impact you make.\nAbout AtkinsRéalis\nWe're AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear organization.
