Working across smart devices, edge computing, cloud services and digital product innovation, you will create everything from early proof-of-concepts and prototypes through to production-ready solutions.\nThis is a technically autonomous role where you will provide specialist expertise and technical leadership within your area of competence. Through demonstrations, technical reports, business cases and evidence-based recommendations, you will help influence our technology direction and future investment decisions.\nYou will report to the Technology Manager - Analytical Intelligence, Vacuum Technique Central Technology\nIn this varied role, you will:\nDesign and develop innovative software applications that improve product quality, reliability, security, usability, performance and cost-effectiveness. \nDevelop software across multiple platforms, including embedded systems, microcontrollers, single-board computers, PCs, cloud and mobile platforms. \nCreate proof-of-concepts, prototypes and production-ready solutions spanning sensors, connected devices, industrial communications, cloud platforms, analytics and machine learning. \nCollaborate with software, electronics, mechanical and systems engineers to turn creative ideas into practical technology solutions. \nProvide technical leadership and specialist expertise, potentially leading work packages and coordinating activities across multiple stakeholders. \nContribute to the technology roadmap by identifying and developing opportunities in areas such as industrial IoT, cyber security, intelligent sensors, digital engineering and connected systems. \nMonitor emerging technologies, academic research, competitor activity and industry best practice to identify opportunities that strengthen our innovation capability. \nClearly document and communicate your work across the full software development lifecycle, including concepts, requirements, designs, test results, project plans, technical reports and final recommendations. \nContinue developing your knowledge of software technologies, standards, intellectual property and their application across industrial sectors. \nTo succeed, you will need\nWe encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement. We value diverse experiences and perspectives and are excited to see what you bring to the role.\nAt least eight years’ hands-on experience in software design, programming and development, ideally within engineering or industrial applications and a bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, electronics engineering or another relevant STEM subject.\nStrong programming experience in C, C++ and Python. \nSolid experience developing software for microcontrollers such as NXP i.MX RT, STM32\nExperience developing software for single-board computers such as Raspberry Pi\nExperience interfacing software with hardware components, including memory, ADCs, DACs, clocks and logic devices. \nStrong knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems. \nExperience with databases such as SQLite or MySQL. \nExperience using version control systems, particularly Git or SVN. \nFamiliarity with Azure DevOps and integrated development environments such as Visual Studio Code or Eclipse. \nKnowledge of industrial communication protocols such as MQTT, Modbus, OPC-UA and TCP/IP. \nA sound understanding of Agile development, software testing, requirements engineering and the software development lifecycle. \nExcellent written and spoken English, with the ability to explain complex technical subjects clearly to different audiences. \nA self-motivated and collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently, solve complex problems and deliver work to agreed timescales. \nIt would also be advantageous to have experience or working knowledge of:\nElectronic hardware design. \nWeb, cloud or mobile application development. \nWireless communications, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or NFC. \nMATLAB. \nC#, .NET, Java, JavaScript, UWP, XAML or Node-RED. \nIn return, we offer\nCulture of trust and accountability\nLifelong learning and career growth\nInnovation powered by people\nComprehensive compensation and benefits\nHealth and well-being\nJob location\nThis role requires you to work on-site at our Global Technology Centre in Burgess Hill, United Kingdom (GB).
