We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.\nAbout the Role\nWe are looking for a Software Development Engineer 2 to help build and operate Atlassian's foundational data platform, growing rapidly on high-scale distributed data systems with real ownership.\nOur platform powers the data behind critical experiences across the company-from rich in-product analytics in Jira, JSM, and Confluence, to dedicated solutions like Atlassian Analytics, the Teamwork Graph (TWG), and AI-native capabilities like Rovo. In this role, the components you build will directly shape how hundreds of thousands of organizations explore, understand, and act on their data.\nWe seek individuals who are eager to shape the future and believe in the power of collaboration to achieve extraordinary results together.\nResponsibilities\nBuild and operate components of Atlassian's data platform across streaming ingestion (Flink) and MPP query/serving (StarRocks), alongside senior engineers.\n\nContribute high-quality code from design through delivery, taking ownership of features and bug fixes.\n\nParticipate in operating high-scale data platform systems in production-on-call, debugging, and basic performance and data-quality tuning.\n\nParticipate in code reviews and write clear documentation.\n\nCollaborate with your team and partner teams to deliver reliable, performant data infrastructure.\n\nContinuously learn and grow your depth in distributed data systems.\n\nQualifications\n3+ years in software engineering with solid distributed-systems / data fundamentals.\n\nExposure to / experience with data platform systems - streaming/ingestion (Flink or Spark) and/or MPP query engines (StarRocks / Trino / Apache Pinot / Apache Doris).\n\nSome experience or strong aptitude for operational management of high-scale data platform systems (participating in on-call, debugging production, performance/data-quality basics).\n\nStrong coding (Java/Scala/Python) and familiarity with cloud data infrastructure (GCP/AWS).\n\nOpen-source contributions to relevant projects are a strong positive.\n\nBenefits & Perks\nAtlassian offers a wide range of perks and benefits designed to support you, your family and to help you engage with your local community.
