As the transmission programme moves forward, you’ll grow into owning the gearbox and clutch controls, covering calibration, development, control simulation and the tooling that goes with it. The aim is a gear shift and clutch response that’s reliable every time, in every situation.\nYou’ll work inside the standard ECU code, tracing through it to find where the gains and the pitfalls are, then tuning calibrations to get the best shift for each scenario. You’ll be part of a small team of around five, working closely with Vehicle Dynamics, Powertrain, Systems Simulation and Electronics.\nIt’s also a rare one. We’re developing our own gearbox from close to the ground up, which very few teams get to do, and the facility is being built with the long term in mind. Opportunities like this don’t come round often.\nKey Responsibilities\nCalibrate and develop the gearbox and clutch control system, with a focus on reliable, repeatable gear shifts and clutch response\nAnalyse data from dyno and car running to find the root cause of shift performance and reliability issues, then apply what you learn in calibrations and control tuning\nLearn, use and help develop the dyno control system, including integrating our vehicle models so the dyno reflects what happens on track\nBuild control simulations and the supporting tooling, mainly in MATLAB, Simulink and Python\nWork within the standard ECU code and toolchain to get the best shift for each situation\nSupport troubleshooting on the dyno and the car, diagnosing issues quickly and working with colleagues across the business to fix them\nDocument designs, test protocols and results so that everything is accurate and traceable\nAbout You\nYou’re a controls engineer who writes and understands the code, not someone who just edits other people’s. You know that code controlling physical hardware has to be right first time, and you take a proactive approach to safety-critical work. You pay attention to the detail, learn quickly, and are happy getting stuck into a programme that’s still taking shape.\nDegree in electrical, control systems, automotive, mechanical, software or a related engineering discipline\nAt least 5 years in controls engineering, ideally in motorsport or high-performance automotive (Formula E, WEC and F1 backgrounds are all relevant)\nStrong MATLAB and Simulink experience, with confident programming and controls ability of your own\nGood understanding of embedded, real-time code that targets an ECU\nAble to read and trace through control code and state flows to spot where the advantages and risks sit\nTransmission controls experience is strongly preferred, and dyno knowledge is a close second\nNice to have: dSpace or SpeedGoat, Python, the standard ECU toolchain (SECU, Atlas, SystemMonitor) and AVL Puma\nCompany Description\nFor almost 50 years, Williams has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. With an almost unrivalled heritage of engineering and racing F1 cars and unforgettable eras that demonstrate it is a force to be reckoned with, the British squad boasts 16 F1 World Championship titles to its name.\nSince its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team has made history before and is out to make it again with a long-term mission to evolve and return to the front of the grid.\nAdditional Information\nAtlassian Williams F1 Team is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We are happy to discuss reasonable job adjustments.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4255,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Electrical & Electronic Engineering","Automotive Manufacturing","Motorsports"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-30T18:24:09Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":25,"reasons":["conf:4","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-11-02T06:13:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/atlassian-williams-f1-team-control-systems-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/atlassian-williams-f1-team-control-systems-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-02T07:10:54Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":10104,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-03T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":185462},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=185462"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fatlassian-williams-f1-team-control-systems-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fatlassian-williams-f1-team-control-systems-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fatlassian-williams-f1-team-control-systems-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/atlassian-williams-f1-team-control-systems-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fatlassian-williams-f1-team-control-systems-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3538246}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"williamsf1.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3538246},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
