Our flagship product, Boiler 2.0, is a modular industrial steam heat pump designed to help manufacturers reduce operational risk, improve flexibility, and modernize steam generation over time. Rather than forcing facilities to choose between reliability and sustainability, AtmosZero enables a practical path toward future-ready steam systems that integrate with existing operations and scale with customer needs.\nAtmosZero · Loveland, Colorado (onsite) · Full-time · Engineer III or Senior Engineer I\nReports To: VP Engineering\nWhy this role exists\nIndustrial steam runs manufacturing - breweries, dairies, pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals - and almost all of it still comes from a boiler design that predates the jet engine. Much of the U.S. fleet is decades past its prime, facing volatile fuel costs, tightening limits on new combustion, and no cheap way to add capacity.\nBoiler 2.0 is a modular heat pump that makes steam at up to 185°C from electricity and air alone. Because it moves heat rather than creating it, it returns roughly 2 units of steam energy per unit of electricity, against well under one for combustion. It drops into the old boiler's footprint and scales by adding modules - no stack, no fuel line, no combustion permit. Units are in production now in Loveland, Colorado.\nThe next cost step is mechanical. We need to turn proven system architecture and first-of-a-kind hardware into compact, serviceable, supplier-ready designs that can be built repeatedly at a much lower cost. That means making hard packaging trades, creating production-quality CAD and drawings, designing piping and structures that survive real loads, and giving suppliers a package they can quote and manufacture without guessing. You would own a real share of that work.\nLevel and scope\nWe are hiring one person into this role at whichever of three levels best matches the scope, independence, and judgment demonstrated through the interview process. Apply once and we will place you.\nEngineer III. You independently execute significant mechanical design work packages with limited supervision, such as equipment layouts, piping, structures, detailed assemblies, or supplier-ready drawings. You exercise sound design judgment, coordinate defined interfaces, and consistently carry work from requirements through release and build support. \nSenior Engineer I. You lead complex mechanical design initiatives through ambiguity, such as integrated product packaging, major subsystem design, or design-to-cost work. You own the work end to end, coordinate suppliers and external design resources, mentor teammates, and influence design decisions beyond your immediate area of responsibility. \nIf you are between levels or arrived at this expertise by an unusual route, apply anyway.\nWhat you will do\nOwn mechanical design and packaging\nDevelop and maintain integrated 3D CAD layouts for modular industrial heat-pump systems, including equipment placement, piping, frames, enclosures, service access, lifting, shipping, and installation interfaces.\nTranslate system and component requirements into production-ready parts, assemblies, fabrication drawings, installation drawings, bills of material, and controlled design releases.\nOwn mechanical interfaces among heat exchangers, compressors, valves, pumps, piping, electrical equipment, controls hardware, skids, and enclosures.\nRun packaging and configuration studies that balance footprint, serviceability, reliability, manufacturability, lead time, and cost.\nDesign for cost and production\nTurn cost-down concepts into credible mechanical designs, supplier-ready technical packages, and executable engineering changes.\nLead DFMA and value-engineering work to reduce part count, simplify fabrication and assembly, standardize components, and remove avoidable cost without compromising safety or performance.\nWork with manufacturing and supply-chain teams to incorporate build feedback, supplier capability, competitive bids, and should-cost insights into the design.\nSupport ECO execution, drawing release, configuration control, and closure of design-review actions as the product moves from first-of-a-kind builds to repeatable production.\nEngineer piping, structures, and interfaces\nDesign piping, frames, supports, equipment mounts, and mechanical interfaces using appropriate engineering calculations and applicable codes and standards.\nPerform or coordinate stress, thermal-expansion, load, tolerance, and structural analyses; know when a hand calculation is enough and when specialist analysis is required.\nDefine fabrication and assembly requirements, including materials, welds, connections, tolerances, inspection needs, and drawing notes that suppliers can execute.\nPartner with thermal-systems engineers to convert process conditions and component selections into practical mechanical geometry and interfaces.\nWork with suppliers and external specialists\nPrepare RFQ and design packages that allow suppliers to quote, design, fabricate, and verify engineered equipment with minimal ambiguity.\nCoordinate external design consultants, fabricators, and component suppliers; review their models, drawings, calculations, and proposals for technical fit and completeness.\nSupport supplier visits, design reviews, build troubleshooting, commissioning, and field issue resolution. Expect occasional travel to customer and supplier sites.\nMature the product\nLead mechanical design reviews, DFMEA, technical risk reduction, and action closure through release and validation.\nCapture lessons from fabrication, assembly, testing, and field operation, then turn those lessons into controlled design improvements.\nIdentify patentable inventions and help turn them into invention disclosures and filings.\nWhat success looks like in your first year\nIn your first 90 days you can navigate the full product CAD structure, understand the major mechanical and process interfaces, and own a defined cost-down or packaging work package.\nBy six months you have released a supplier-ready design package, coordinated the supporting analysis and reviews, and driven the package through quoting or fabrication.\nBy twelve months a mechanical design change you led is validated in hardware and is reducing cost, assembly effort, footprint, lead time, or service burden in a production-intent system.\nWhat we need from you\nBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, and relevant experience at the level you are applying for.\nStrong command of mechanical design fundamentals, including machine design, materials, tolerances, fits, fasteners, welded structures, piping, and load paths.\nDemonstrated experience creating complex 3D assemblies and production-quality drawings in SolidWorks or a comparable parametric CAD and PDM environment.\nExperience taking mechanical hardware from requirements and layout through detailed design, supplier release, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting.\nAbility to perform and review first-principles calculations for loads, pressure, thermal expansion, stress, deflection, tolerance stack-up, and component sizing.\nExperience producing the documentation that mechanical decisions live in: specifications, drawings, BOMs, interface definitions, calculations, ECOs, and design-review records.\nAbility to work directly with fabricators and equipment suppliers, resolve incomplete information, and convert supplier feedback into controlled design decisions.\nComfort with the ambiguity and pace of a startup building physical hardware, where the answer is often that nobody has one yet.\nWhat would help\nWe do not expect anyone to have all of this. The first two are the ones we would most like to see.\nDeep SolidWorks experience with large assemblies, configurations, drawings, weldments, routing, BOMs, and PDM-controlled release.\nExperience designing packaged industrial equipment with piping, pressure equipment, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, structural frames, and service-access constraints.\nWorking knowledge of ASME B31 piping requirements, pressure-boundary interfaces, welding and fabrication practices, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.\nExperience with structural, piping-stress, thermal-expansion, or mechanical FEA tools and the judgment to interpret their results.\nExperience with industrial heat pumps, refrigeration, steam systems, process skids, HVAC equipment, turbomachinery packages, or comparable engineered-to-order equipment.\nExperience leading DFMA, value engineering, cost reduction, supplier qualification, and competitive sourcing for complex hardware.\nExperience coordinating external engineering consultants and reviewing third-party calculations, models, and drawings.\nExperience supporting prototype builds, commissioning, certification, or field troubleshooting of industrial equipment.\nA graduate degree, professional engineering license, or patents you helped develop.\nCompensation and benefits\nBase salary range:\nEngineer III [$110,000 - $165,000] \nSenior Engineer I [$125,000 - $180,000] \nWhere an offer lands within a range depends on experience, demonstrated capability, and interview performance. \nEquity: Stock option grant\nBenefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage; retirement plan; paid time off and holidays; parental leave.","description_format":"text","description_chars":9355,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Parental leave","Retirement plans"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Energy Management","HVAC & Refrigeration"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-20T01:06:36Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"adverts_offering_sponsorship_24m":0,"sanctioned_now":false,"evidence":"Filed H-1B visas in the last two years","filings_12m":0,"filings_prev_12m":3,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":null,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-11-06T22:30:08+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":56,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.744,"p_room":0.75,"age_days":21,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:4","win:late"],"computed_at":"2026-11-07T05:47:08Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":165000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/atmoszero-mechanical-design-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/atmoszero-mechanical-design-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-07T07:01:38Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1607,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-08T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":670365},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=670365"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fatmoszero-mechanical-design-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fatmoszero-mechanical-design-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fatmoszero-mechanical-design-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/atmoszero-mechanical-design-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fatmoszero-mechanical-design-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":2888642}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"atmoszero.energy","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":2888642},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people);
