Our flagship product, Boiler 2.0, is a modular industrial steam heat pump designed to help manufacturers reduce operational risk, improve flexibility, and modernize steam generation over time. Rather than forcing facilities to choose between reliability and sustainability, AtmosZero enables a practical path toward future-ready steam systems that integrate with existing operations and scale with customer needs.\nAtmosZero · Loveland, Colorado (onsite) · Full-time · Engineer III / Senior Engineer I / Senior Engineer II\nReports To: VP, Engineering\nWhy this role exists\nIndustrial steam runs manufacturing - breweries, dairies, pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals - and almost all of it still comes from a boiler design that predates the jet engine. Much of the U.S. fleet is decades past its prime, facing volatile fuel costs, tightening limits on new combustion, and no cheap way to add capacity.\nBoiler 2.0 is a modular heat pump that makes steam at up to 185°C from electricity and air alone. Because it moves heat rather than creating it, it returns roughly 2 units of steam energy per unit of electricity, against well under one for combustion. It drops into the old boiler's footprint and scales by adding modules - no stack, no fuel line, no combustion permit. Units are in production now in Loveland, Colorado.\nThe compressor is one of the most important technical and cost levers in the system. We need to move from first-generation hardware toward production-intent designs that are lower cost, manufacturable, reliable, and supported by a scalable supplier base. That work spans the full rotating assembly: aerodynamic and mechanical design, motors, bearings, seals, cast components, instrumentation, controls interfaces, supplier execution, and validation. You would own a real share of that work.\nLevel and scope\nWe are hiring one person into this role at whichever of three levels best matches the scope, independence, and judgment demonstrated through the interview process. Apply once and we will place you.\nEngineer III. You independently execute significant turbomachinery design and validation work with limited supervision. You own defined projects or subsystems, exercise sound engineering judgment, coordinate technical interfaces, and consistently deliver meaningful outcomes from analysis through hardware test.\nSenior Engineer I. You lead complex turbomachinery initiatives through ambiguity, own major compressor subsystems or development workstreams end to end, mentor teammates, and influence technical decisions beyond your immediate area of responsibility.\nSenior Engineer II. You are a recognized turbomachinery expert who leads highly complex, cross-functional efforts spanning rotating machinery, motors, suppliers, controls, manufacturing, and system integration. You set technical direction and frequently drive execution without direct authority.\nIf you are between levels or arrived at this expertise through an unusual route, apply anyway.\nWhat you will do\nOwn key compressor development workstreams\nWork in close partnership with team to develop production-intent compressor hardware for high-temperature industrial heat-pump applications. \nOwn key technical workstreams across the high-speed rotating assembly, including impellers, shafts, bearings, seals, housings, motors, interfaces, and supporting instrumentation. \nTranslate system-level requirements into compressor operating maps, mechanical requirements, interface specifications, and validation criteria. \nLead technical efforts to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost as the compressor moves toward production.\nAdvance design-to-cost and production readiness\nLead compressor cost-down work involving cast components, part consolidation, alternate manufacturing processes, production-intent instrumentation, motors, seals, and supplier alternatives.\nDevelop and evaluate design concepts that reduce cost and lead time while preserving performance, reliability, safety, and serviceability.\nWork with mechanical design, manufacturing, and supply-chain teams to convert concepts into released drawings, supplier-ready packages, and executable engineering changes.\nSupport should-cost analysis, competitive sourcing, and technical evaluation of domestic and international suppliers.\nModel, analyze, and make decisions\nUse first-principles analysis and appropriate simulation tools to assess aerodynamic performance, rotor dynamics, structural integrity, thermal behavior, critical speeds, vibration, and component life.\nDefine assumptions, margins, and acceptance criteria clearly enough that analysis can drive design decisions rather than simply document them.\nReview and challenge external analyses, supplier calculations, test results, and design proposals for technical completeness and sound judgment.\nTest, validate, and learn\nDevelop component and system-level validation plans, instrumentation requirements, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for compressor hardware.\nAnalyze performance, vibration, thermal, electrical, and reliability data to identify root causes and confirm or reject design assumptions.\nSupport prototype builds, commissioning, troubleshooting, failure investigations, and corrective actions in the lab, at suppliers, and in field systems.\nLead suppliers and external specialists\nCoordinate compressor suppliers, motor specialists, casting suppliers, engineering consultants, and test partners across parallel workstreams.\nPrepare technical packages for RFQs, design reviews, prototype procurement, and supplier qualification.\nDrive clear ownership, decisions, interfaces, and action closure across organizations where you may not have direct authority.\nMature the product\nLead design reviews, DFMEA, technical risk reduction, and validation closure for compressor changes.\nCapture lessons from fabrication, assembly, testing, and field operation, then turn those lessons into controlled design improvements.\nIdentify patentable inventions and help turn them into invention disclosures and filings.\nWhat success looks like in your first year\nIn your first 90 days you understand the current compressor architecture, supplier landscape, open technical risks, and cost-down roadmap, and you own a defined development workstream.\nBy six months you have driven a production-intent design or supplier package through analysis, review, and prototype or procurement commitment.\nBy twelve months a compressor change you led is validated in hardware and is reducing cost, lead time, technical risk, or supplier dependence while meeting defined performance requirements.\nWhat we need from you\nBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline, with experience appropriate to the level at which you are hired.\nStrong command of turbomachinery fundamentals, including compressible flow, rotating machinery, thermodynamics, heat transfer, vibration, and mechanical design.\nDemonstrated experience designing, analyzing, testing, or troubleshooting compressors or comparable high-speed rotating equipment in hardware, not only in simulation.\nExperience with one or more of the following: aerodynamic design, rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, electric motors, high-speed shafts, cast housings, impellers, or vibration analysis.\nAbility to connect component-level decisions to system performance, controls, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.\nExperience developing test plans, defining instrumentation, analyzing data, and closing the loop from test results back into the design.\nExperience producing the documentation that engineering decisions live in: requirements, specifications, interface definitions, calculations, drawings, test plans, and design-review records.\nAbility to work directly with suppliers and external specialists, resolve incomplete information, and drive technically sound decisions through ambiguity.\nComfort with the pace of a startup building physical hardware, where the answer is often that nobody has one yet.\nWhat would help\nWe do not expect anyone to have all of this. The first two are the ones we would most like to see.\nHands-on experience developing centrifugal compressors, turbo-compressors, expanders, turbochargers, or comparable high-speed rotating machinery from concept through validation.\nExperience with rotor-dynamic, aerodynamic, structural, thermal, or electromagnetic analysis tools used for turbomachinery development.\nExperience with high-speed electric motors, motor cooling, power electronics interfaces, magnetic or rolling-element bearings, and dynamic sealing systems.\nExperience designing cast or machined turbomachinery components and working with foundries, machine shops, and production suppliers.\nExperience with refrigeration, industrial heat pumps, ORC systems, process gas compression, steam systems, or other demanding thermal equipment.\nExperience leading cost reduction, value engineering, should-cost analysis, supplier qualification, and competitive sourcing for complex hardware.\nExperience coordinating external consultants and reviewing third-party models, calculations, drawings, and test reports.\nExperience with failure analysis, vibration diagnostics, high-speed data acquisition, and root-cause investigation.\nA graduate degree, professional engineering license, or patents you helped develop.\nCompensation and benefits\nBase salary range:\nEngineer III [$110,000 - $165,000]\nSenior Engineer I [$125,000 - $180,000] \nSenior Engineer II [$140,000 - $200,000]\nWhere an offer lands within a range depends on experience, demonstrated capability, and interview performance. \nEquity: Stock option grant\nBenefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage; retirement plan; paid time off and holidays; and parental leave.","description_format":"text","description_chars":9851,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Parental leave","Retirement plans"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Energy Management","HVAC & Refrigeration"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-20T01:06:36Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"Filed H-1B visas in the last two years","filings_12m":0,"filings_prev_12m":3,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":null,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-15T11:24:14+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":71,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.788,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":11,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:0","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-10-28T05:59:10Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":165000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/atmoszero-turbomachinery-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/atmoszero-turbomachinery-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-28T08:45:14Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":11348,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-29T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":670365},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=670365"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fatmoszero-turbomachinery-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fatmoszero-turbomachinery-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fatmoszero-turbomachinery-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/atmoszero-turbomachinery-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fatmoszero-turbomachinery-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":2888648}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"atmoszero.energy","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":2888648},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people);
