They are versatile tradespeople with broad mechanical skills able to work in workshops, manufacturing, maintenance, and service environments.\nAbout the Host Company:\nOur host company is a well-established heavy mechanical engineering business in the Bay of Plenty, with more than 30 years of experience serving the region’s industrial sector. They run a close-knit team where apprentices work alongside experienced tradespeople and get real, hands-on exposure from day one.\nThe work is varied and no two jobs are the same. They specialise in component manufacturing, maintenance and re-engineering, covering:\nPrecision machining\nBalancing\nFabrication and fitting\nDesign and draughting\nProject management\nFor an apprentice in machining or general engineering, this means building skills across the whole engineering process, from reading drawings and setting up machines to producing, repairing and re-engineering heavy industrial components. This may be shorter if you have completed a level 3 pre-trade qualification. \nHow much do apprenticeships pay?\nIt varies between host companies. But the average annual salary for most of our apprentices is $41’000-$52’000. You may receive a higher or lower amount than this bracket depending on your skill level and the financial ability of the host company. \nIs there an upper age limit for apprenticeships?\nNone. Anyone aged 16 or over with the right to permanently live and work in New Zealand is allowed to undertake an apprenticeship. \nDo I need my own tools?\nSome companies provide tools, while others require you to have your own. It is always good to build your own supply for the future. One of the benefits of being employed directly by ATNZ is that we offer our apprentices interest-free loans for tools. \nWhat qualifications do I need to get an ATNZ apprenticeship?\nNo qualifications are necessary.
