From cars and aerospace systems to medical devices and packaging, most physical goods begin life in a mold or are shaped by a manufacturing tool. Producing these tools has always been slow, manual, and dependent on scarce expertise, taking weeks or months. We’re changing that.\nAt our Detroit headquarters, we combine the industrial DNA of America’s manufacturing heartland with the speed, intelligence, and precision of Silicon Valley. Our AI-driven platform tackles the hardest problems in geometry, process planning, and fabrication, collapsing production timelines from months to days and soon, minutes. We don’t just build software; we run a fully operational factory where our technology produces production-grade tooling every week, enabling tight feedback loops and rapid iteration.\nBacked by top-tier investors, we’re restoring speed, flexibility, and capability to the American industrial base. Our mission is to make manufacturing as agile and scalable as the digital world, and in doing so, rebuild the infrastructure of the physical economy.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform Engineering team, you'll help transform cutting-edge research into scalable, production-grade software used by engineers, machinists, and customers alike.\nYou’ll work across services and systems - from CAD and mesh pipelines to simulation infrastructure and web APIs - to build the core backend and data services that power Atomic’s platform. This role is ideal for generalists who are excited to work across disciplines and take ownership of complex, high-impact systems.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign and implement scalable backend systems and APIs in Python and other languages\n\nBuild and maintain services for geometry processing, simulation orchestration, and real-time data handling\n\nDesign schemas and pipelines for structured and unstructured data using PostgreSQL, S3, Redis, and RabbitMQ\n\nOwn and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure (GitHub Actions, Hashicorp stack)\n\nCollaborate with product and design to define intuitive interfaces for tooling engineers and internal users\n\nProfile and optimize performance-critical workloads, including GPU-accelerated simulation tasks\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\nMinimum Qualifications\n7+ years of experience building and deploying production software at scale\n\nProficiency in at least one systems language (Go, Rust, or C++) and one scripting language (Python preferred)\n\nExperience designing and scaling distributed systems, data pipelines, or high-performance compute services\n\nHands-on experience with distributed computing, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines\n\nComfortable working in hybrid environments (cloud and on-prem), including bare-metal GPU systems\n\nExcellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly in writing and in conversation\n\nBonus Points For\nExperience with 3D geometry kernels (Parasolid, OpenCascade) or CAD/CAM workflows\n\nFamiliarity with simulation, manufacturing, robotics, or hardware-in-the-loop systems\n\nUnderstanding of ITAR, CMMC, or similar regulatory constraints\n\nExperience building developer-facing tools, SDKs, or internal platforms\n\nHow We Work\nFast iteration: We deploy code daily and validate it in the factory every week\n\nFactory-first mindset: Engineers spend time on the shop floor to understand the real-world impact of their work\n\nLow ceremony, high ownership: We value well-written design docs, tested code, and real results - not meetings\n\nCollaborative culture: Geometry, AI, and robotics teams are tightly integrated and co-develop the product together\n\nBenefits\nCompetitive salary and generous equity package\n\nFull medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents\n\n401(k)\n\nPTO with a 15-day minimum\n\nQuarterly team travel to Detroit\n\nVisa support for TN, E-3, and O-1 candidates\n\nHardware stipend and on-site prototype lab access","description_format":"text","description_chars":4035,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":7,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Manufacturing","Plastics & Polymers","Industrial Machinery"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-25T20:37:14Z"}],"liveness":{"score":8,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.284,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":179,"expected_fill_days":37,"reasons":["conf:12","stale_co","ghost","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-09-30T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/atomic-industries-senior-software-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/atomic-industries-senior-software-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T02:38:21Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1941,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":3059,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
