They take people who know their way around hardware. \nThe Role\nBefore a quantum sensor reaches the field, somebody has to machine the parts, build the electronics, test the hardware and keep the lab ready for the next build. That is where you come in.\nYou will work alongside engineers and physicists as designs become deployable systems. Prior physics or quantum-technology experience is not required.\nWe're particularly interested in someone who is comfortable working across both mechanical and electronics systems. If your experience is stronger in one area, we'd still like to hear from you if you're keen to develop your skills in the other.\nTechnical Context\nWe cool atoms with lasers to near absolute zero to measure tiny changes in gravity. Yes, really. Those measurements let us map what lies beneath the surface. The challenge is taking that level of precision beyond the lab and making it work reliably in real-world conditions.\nWhat You Will Do\nMachine, 3D print, assemble, rework and prototype mechanical parts, assemble PCBs, electronics subsystems and cable harnesses for sensing hardware.\nCarry out inspection, measurement and testing of parts and assemblies, from dimensional checks to continuity, power-up and functional tests.\nTroubleshoot hardware issues, find the root cause and carry out repairs or rework.\nSupport integration, testing and troubleshooting alongside engineers and physicists.\nMaintain tools, lab spaces, inventory and workshop readiness so builds move without delay.\nPrepare sensors and equipment for installation, packing and field surveys, with occasional travel for field trials.\nWhat We Are Looking For\nITE Nitec / Higher Nitec, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in mechanical, electrical or electronics engineering, or a related field.\nHands-on experience in mechanical and/or electronics work, such as CNC machining (milling and lathe), soldering and rework, assembly or 3D printing.\nAbility to read technical drawings, schematics or BOMs and work to written procedures.\nPractical fault-finding with workshop tools, precision measuring tools or bench instruments.\nCareful documentation habits and comfort with methodical, precise work.\nCare for safety, cleanliness and the quality of what you produce.\nWillingness to learn and work across both mechanical and electronics systems. \nEven Better If\nExperience across both mechanical and electronics work.\nExposure to lasers and/or vacuum systems and the associated safety practice.\nBasic Python scripting for test automation.\nExperience preparing equipment for field or site work.\nProven hands-on experience across both mechanical fabrication/assembly and electronics assembly/testing.\nExperience integrating mechanical and electronics components into a working system.\nWorking at Atomionics\nSubsurface intelligence takes more than one discipline.
