You will build the control layer behind our cold-atom sensor systems.\nThe Role\nThis internship sits at the intersection of software engineering, experimental physics and hardware control.\nYou will primarily work in Python and ARTIQ, building software that controls and automates cold-atom experiments. That means working close to the physical system: lasers, electronics, FPGA-based hardware, cameras, RF systems and scientific instruments rather than software that exists separately from the hardware.\nThe scope runs from low-level experimental sequencing through automation, data processing and operator-facing tools. You will work alongside physicists and engineers to make that software reliable, modular and easier to use as the sensor platform becomes more integrated.\nTechnical Context\nWe cool atoms with lasers to near absolute zero to measure tiny changes in gravity. Yes, really.\nRunning those experiments requires precise control over hardware, timing and data. The software is not sitting around the experiment; it is part of how the experiment works.\nWhat You Will Do\nDevelop and maintain Python-based software for controlling cold-atom experiments, including deterministic real-time sequences using ARTIQ.\nInterface software with laboratory hardware including TTL, DDS, DAC, ADC, RF and microwave systems, lasers, magnetic-field controls, cameras and timing electronics.\nBuild reusable software modules, hardware interfaces, device drivers and experiment-control components, and help integrate ARTIQ/Sinara and FPGA-based control hardware.\nDevelop automation for parameter scanning, calibration, optimization and system characterization, alongside logging, monitoring, diagnostics, configuration management and experiment traceability.\nBuild data-acquisition, processing and visualization tools using Python libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, pandas and Matplotlib.\nContribute to backend APIs, web-based dashboards and operator-facing tools while debugging hardware-software interfaces and writing clean, modular, documented and testable code using Git and collaborative code-review workflows.\nWhat We Are Looking For\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, Engineering Physics or a related discipline.\nGood programming skills in Python.\nUnderstanding of core software-engineering concepts including object-oriented programming, data structures, APIs and software architecture.\nFamiliarity with Linux development environments and Git/version control.\nStrong analytical, debugging and problem-solving skills.\nInterest in software that interacts with physical hardware or scientific instruments, and willingness to learn unfamiliar systems.\nWhat You Will Learn\nDeveloping software for a real-world cold-atom / quantum-sensor platform.\nUsing ARTIQ for deterministic experimental control.\nIntegrating software with lasers, electronics, FPGA hardware, cameras, RF systems and scientific instruments.\nBuilding reliable software at the interface between physics and engineering.\nScientific data acquisition, processing and visualization.\nFull-stack development for scientific and engineering applications.\nCollaborative software development within a multidisciplinary R&D environment.\nWorking at Atomionics\nSubsurface intelligence takes more than one discipline. People bring different expertise to the same problem, and what happens in one part of the system shapes the next.\nThe roles are different, but the goal is shared: make subsurface intelligence useful where it matters.\nLocation + Work Model\nSingapore.\nEmployment type: Internship.\nWork model: On-site.\nBuild the technology that maps what no one else can see.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3806,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Quantum Science & Computing","Sensors & Transducers"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-14T07:44:02Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":107,"reasons":["conf:3","win:early","comp:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-15T05:46:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/atomionics-software-engineering-intern","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/atomionics-software-engineering-intern.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-15T07:17:34Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"assistant_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1271,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-16T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":174974},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=174974"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fatomionics-software-engineering-intern"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fatomionics-software-engineering-intern"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fatomionics-software-engineering-intern"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/atomionics-software-engineering-intern\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fatomionics-software-engineering-intern"}]}
