The team works across product, data, backend services, and user facing applications to turn complex operational problems into reliable, high-leverage software. We move quickly, stay close to users, and value engineers who are comfortable owning problems beyond a narrow technical boundary.\nAbout the role\nWe are looking for a Back-End Engineer to build the services, APIs, data systems, and platform capabilities behind our Fleet Management product. You will work on systems that connect complex operational data to the software used to manage autonomous fleets in the field. We want a backend-focused engineer with strong generalist instincts, someone who can own a problem end to end, make sound architectural decisions, and partner closely with product-facing engineers and users.\nWhat you'll do\nDesign, build, and operate backend services and APIs that power fleet-management products and workflows.\nDevelop reliable data models, pipelines, and service integrations for operational and fleet data.\nOwn backend systems from architecture and implementation through deployment, observability, and ongoing operation.\nDesign systems for reliability, scalability, debuggability, and clear operational ownership.\nPartner with full-stack and product engineers to define clean interfaces and enable fast product development.\nWork directly with engineering and operational stakeholders to understand real-world requirements and turn them into robust technical solutions.\nUse modern AI-assisted engineering tools and emerging technologies to accelerate development and improve system capabilities.\nInvestigate complex production issues across services, data, and system boundaries and drive them to resolution.\nContribute to technical direction and engineering standards as the Fleet Management platform grows.\nWhat we're looking for\nStrong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production backend systems.\nExperience designing APIs, services, data models, and distributed or data-intensive systems.\nStrong understanding of system design, reliability, performance, and engineering tradeoffs.\nExperience working with databases and designing systems around complex or high-volume data.\nGeneralist engineering instincts and a willingness to work outside a narrowly defined backend boundary when the problem requires it.\nAbility to operate effectively in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment with a high degree of ownership.\nStrong communication skills and a track record of driving meaningful technical projects from design through production.\nNice to have\nExperience with fleet-management, logistics, robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other operationally complex systems.\nExperience with real-time, streaming, telemetry, or event-driven architectures.\nExperience building data platforms or systems that support operational decision-making.\nExperience incorporating AI/ML capabilities or AI-enabled developer workflows into production systems.\nStartup or zero-to-one engineering experience.\nWhy join us\nAt Atoms, you’ll work on one of the defining challenges of our time-bringing automation into the physical world to drive real, lasting impact. Atoms is a company driven by invention and continuous change - we are constantly reimagining our industries, building new products, and refining how we operate. We do our best work together. That’s why all of our office-based teams work onsite, five days a week.\nThe base salary range for this role is$176,000 - $220,000 per year.\nActual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.\nBase salary is just one part of your total rewards package.
