DAS works across business and technology teams to shape, deliver and continuously improve digital solutions that are robust, scalable and aligned to organisational priorities.\n\nJob Description:\nWe are seeking an experienced Designer / Lead Developer to join our Public Sector team.\nThis is a long-term role focused on developing and supporting Ophthalmic systems, requiring someone who can work independently, lead small development teams, and build deep domain and system knowledge.\nThe ideal candidate will have strong hands-on technical expertise, the ability to guide and mentor developers and testers, and a commitment to understanding complex healthcare systems vital to public sector operations.\nResponsibilities:\nAct as Lead Developer and technical designer, contributing to architecture, solution design, and hands-on implementation.\nLead and coordinate a small team of developers and testers, ensuring quality delivery and adherence to best practices.\nWork independently to analyse, design, develop, and enhance Ophthalmic system components.\nBuild and maintain long-term domain knowledge of Ophthalmic workflows, business rules, and system integrations.\nCollaborate closely with product owners, architects, and stakeholders to refine requirements and drive technical decisions.\nEnsure code quality, maintainability, and performance through reviews, refactoring, and standards enforcement.\nSupport CI/CD processes using tools such as Jenkins and Git.\nProvide technical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production support where required.\nEssential Skills:\nExperience Java (expert-level)\nSpring Framework\nHibernate\nJBoss Drools (business rules engine)\nJenkins (CI/CD pipeline management)\nGit (source control)\nDesirable Skills:\nAngularJS or similar front-end frameworks, Oracle PL/SQL (database scripting and performance optimisation).\nAbility to work independently with minimal supervision.\nStrong leadership skills with experience guiding small teams.\nExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication capabilities.\nCommitment to long-term engagement and deepening system/domain expertise.\nExperience working in healthcare, public sector, or regulated environments (advantageous but not essential).\nBenefits:\nPension Scheme - contributions matched up to 10%\nPrivate medical cover\nIncome Protection\nLife Assurance\n25 days paid leave + National Holidays\nFlex benefits program\n\nPlease note eligibility for SC clearance is essential for this role.\nAs a Disability Confident employer, we encourage applications from all applicants, especially, differently abled applicants.
