You will work with the customer, ATS project manager, and ATS design, assembly, and software teams to design the solutions that meet the customer's requirements. You will get the opportunity to thrive as a technical leader by wearing the 3 hats: 1) understanding the customer's technology and process and becoming the subject matter expert in the equipment/system, 2) providing project technical clarity by defining system requirements and validating system capability, and 3) being the technical leader on the system from cradle to launch, guiding the design teams, managing technical risk, and driving improvements in quality, cost, and delivery. Your ability to design, create, execute, solve problems and work as a team will drive the team’s success.\nSPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:\nSubject Matter ExpertiseLearn the customer process and become the local expert in it, to support the design, fabrication, integration, testing, and commissioning of machines/tools/systems.\nTake engineering responsibility for component and system level analysis, calculations, or studies to verify:Structural integrity, \nAbility to meet functional requirements (forces, strokes, speeds, pressure/flow, accuracy/repeatability, cycle times, reliability/service life, etc.), \nDesign and operating conditions (pressure, temperature, radiation, seismic, etc.),\nCompliance with applicable codes and standards. \n\nPrepare/review technical project documents such as Failure Modes and Effects Analyses and Safety Risk Assessments, ALARA reports, installation/commissioning plans, operating sequence/flowcharts, execution storyboards, operating and maintenance manuals, etc. \n\nRequirements Definition and VerificationResponsible for ensuring design requirements are appropriately documented.\nLearn, understand and flow down customer and industry requirements, including applicable codes and standards, to ensure overall machine compliance.\nPrepare/review vendor technical specifications and interface with vendors of process critical third party equipment, including acceptance testing and buy-off of equipment at vendor site.\nUsing tools such as a Verification Matrix, plan for verification of all design/system requirements.\nResponsible for requirements verification by evaluating engineering drawings and specifications for conformance to design inputs/requirements, performing analysis (calculations, simulations, etc.) and testing (POP testing, design validation testing, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, etc.).\nResponsible for planning of Acceptance Testing, including preparation of test plans, ensuring availability of resources, mock-ups, fixtures, test support equipment, etc., and leading test execution with the customer. \n\nJob Description\nProject Technical LeadershipResponsible for planning, execution, and monitoring of systems design and development.\nResponsible for Design Plan preparation, defining responsibilities for implementation, and updating the plans as design evolves or to capture progress of project execution.\nLead and participate in design reviews with customers, vendors and internal design groups.\nResponsible for identifying and mitigating technical risk during design phase, starting with CTRAs (concept technical risk assessments) - identify high risk system elements and design assumptions, and provide risk mitigation strategies, including analysis, POP (proof of principle) testing, consulting with external subject matter experts, etc.\nManage project technical risk throughout the project lifecycle: highlight high risk areas and create mitigation plans to reduce risk.\nManage and monitor ‘process critical’ third party equipment vendors to ensure compliance with requirements and adherence to budget and schedule. \n\nAdditional Responsibilities:\nResponsible for communicating time estimates and resource requirements on tasks to the Department Manager and the Project Manager\nEnsure compliance with applicable codes and standards, accepted engineering practices, and ATS standards.\nAssist in department Continuous Improvement initiatives, including development of standards and procedures.\nTake engineering responsibility for own work and for others when required as defined by PEO guidelines. \nAssist in the supervision and mentoring of junior staff within the department.\nDevelop and verify design concepts and labour hours estimates for quote preparation.\nProvide design support related to construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization as required.\nStrictly follow CSA N299/B51/N285/NQA Quality requirements as defined within the appropriate ATS QA manuals and procedures.\nWilling to work as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), and work in radioactive environments including nuclear site work.\nEnsure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.\nPerform other specific duties or projects, as assigned. \nHEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS\nAll employees have the responsibility to work in a healthy and safe manner, report any health, safety or environmental concern to their manager or supervisor in a timely manner, and participate in the safety culture of the organization.\nEmployee responsibilities for Health, Safety and Environment include:\nWork in conformance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures and compliance with legislative requirements.\nRefrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.\nReport any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts, defects in any equipment or protective device, and any accidents/incidents to the supervisor.\nEnsure that the required protective equipment is used for assigned tasks.\nAttend all required health, safety and environmental training.\nAssist in investigating accidents/incidents where applicable.\nRefrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct. \nQualifications\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nEducation:\nA post-secondary degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems Design, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, or equivalent. \nA Licensed Professional Engineer designation in Ontario (P.Eng.) is preferred. \nExperience:\nTen years of experience in engineering design, development and qualification of custom machinery, systems or equipment. \nFive years of experience in nuclear tooling and equipment development and testing, preferably including field support and experience. \nThorough understanding of machine design and build, machine controls, structured problem solving, statistical analysis, and precision engineering principles. \nGood written and oral communication skills and ability to lead or work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. \nWhy should you join ATS Industrial Automation?\nBe a part of an engaged, empowered and innovative global workforce\nWe offer a robust total rewards package- Competitive starting salaries, comprehensive health and dental benefits, overtime pay, employee bonus, RSP matching, Employee Share Purchase Program\nWe provide awesome work perks such as treat days, gourmet coffee and beverages, subsidized breakfast and lunches in our cafeteria, employee referral bonuses and lots more.\nWe are intentional about your professional growth and development through internal career opportunities and our educational reimbursement program.\nThe Compensation offered will be based on the local job market and may vary depending on factors such as the job-related knowledge, skills, experience of the selected candidate, as well as other objective business considerations.
