They’re intimidated by the process, unsure where to turn, and desperate for good advice.\nAs a Paralegal at Atticus, your job is to get them on the right path. This job is different from that of a traditional paralegal. The job mixes responsibilities in any good paralegal’s comfort zone (build client relationships; keep your caseload moving; and collaborate with attorneys on case strategy) with those unique to being an operator in a fast-growing tech company (help Marketing source clients who’d be great in testimonials, or user test new tools for Product).\nIn a typical week you might do any of the following:\nInterview a client, analyze their medical records, and draft a persuasive memo arguing why the SSA should consider them disabled.\n\nWork with a client’s local representative to run down missing paperwork at SSA\n\nTake on an inefficient workflow that’s slowing the team down (e.g., processing case updates), scope an improvement, get team buy-in, and execute the improvement.\n\nThis role is a rare opportunity to join a fast-growing Series C startup and do meaningful social impact work. It’s designed to be a path to (a) staying at Atticus and advancing on the Representation Lab team, or (b) heading to law school or business school (we'll help you with applications and we write great recs).\nQualifications\nRequired:\nYou have experience in a professional role that required a substantial amount of client-facing work (like a case manager) or lawyer-facing work (like a paralegal).\n\nYou are a resourceful team-player ready to dive into a scrappy startup environment where you will learn quickly and get your hands dirty.\n\nYou are comfortable in a variety of interpersonal conversations; you can be empathetic and kind when speaking with people in a moment of crisis, and can be thoughtful and organized when interacting with attorneys.\n\nYou have a demonstrated commitment to doing good and helping people.\n\nBonus / Nice-to-Have:\nYou have professional experience helping others apply for government benefits.\n\nYou have experience at a startup or other fast-paced, agile environment.\n\nWe are strongly committed to building a diverse team.
