The Augustine Institute is a Catholic educational apostolate and accredited graduate college offering master's programs in Catholic theology.

Job Description

Augustine Institute Studios is seeking an audio engineer with recording skills and high-level

craftsmanship, coupled with superior editing chops. Please submit a resume and reel that

features a good sampling of your current stylistic sensibilities and technical

competencies.

Seeking a self-motivated production expert who can push projects over the finish line with

a high-level of competency. Experienced editing competencies, with an ear for story,

understanding of the content to relay what is necessary, and a desire to work with our

award-winning creative Catholic film and audio team. This role will help bring high-quality

Catholic media to life through the Amen App, audio dramas, podcasts, audiobooks,

music, educational content, and other audio projects.

The Audio Engineer will play a key role throughout the audio production process-from

recording and editing to sound design, mixing, mastering, and final delivery. The ideal

candidate combines strong technical expertise with a creative ear, exceptional attention to

detail, and a passion for using the craft of audio storytelling to serve the mission of the

Augustine Institute.

A strong understanding of Catholicism is a must; a faithful Catholic identity is a plus. You

will work under the daily direction of the creative and logistic leads of each project. As with

any non-profit organization, multiple hats will be worn that extend to the wider world of

filmmaking.

This full-time position will work out of the Augustine Institute home office in Florissant,

Missouri.

This is a collaborative role that will work closely with producers, directors, writers, voice

talent, composers, and other members of the Studios team to create engaging, polished,

and technically excellent audio experiences. This role will also collaborate and interact

with the Content team at large, that is to say, work with and contribute to content

development teams, curriculum, and other content partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record, edit, mix, master, and deliver high-quality audio for a wide range of

Augustine Institute Studios projects.

  • Support audio production for the Amen App, including prayers, meditations,

reflections, podcasts, and other audio experiences.

  • Engineer and produce audio dramas, including dialogue recording, editing, sound

design, ambience, Foley, music integration, mixing, and mastering.

  • Record and produce podcasts, interviews, voiceover, narration, audiobooks, music,

and other studio-based audio content.

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot professional recording equipment,

microphones, studio systems, and related hardware.

  • Manage and maintain audio sessions and projects within industry-standard digital

audio workstations (DAWs).

  • Perform detailed dialogue editing, noise reduction, restoration, EQ, compression,

balancing, and other processing as needed to achieve professional results.

  • Create and implement sound design that supports storytelling, emotion,

atmosphere, and the overall creative vision of a project.

  • Collaborate with producers, directors, writers, composers, and other creative team

members to determine appropriate recording and post-production approaches.

  • Participate in recording sessions and provide technical and creative guidance to

voice talent and other contributors when appropriate.

  • Ensure audio meets appropriate technical specifications and quality standards for

digital distribution, mobile applications, streaming platforms, and other delivery

formats.

  • Organize, archive, and maintain audio files, sessions, sound libraries, and project

assets in accordance with established Studios workflows.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide audio-production support to members

of the Studios team.

  • Help maintain and improve studio workflows, recording practices, and postproduction

processes.

  • Stay current with developments in audio technology, recording techniques,

software, plugins, and emerging production tools.

  • Contribute creatively to the ongoing development of Augustine Institute Studios'

audio production capabilities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of professional experience in audio production, engineering, editing,

or post-production.

  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, Music Production, or a

related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

  • Advanced proficiency with industry-standard DAWs, particularly Pro Tools;

experience with Logic Pro, Ableton Live, or other professional audio platforms is a

plus.

  • Strong understanding of professional recording, editing, mixing, mastering, and

audio post-production techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience recording and editing spoken-word content, including

dialogue, narration, podcasts, voiceover, or audiobooks.

  • Experience with narrative audio, sound design, Foley, or audio drama

production strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of microphones, signal flow, acoustics, recording equipment,

studio systems, and audio troubleshooting.

  • Experience with dialogue cleanup, noise reduction, restoration, and processing of

recorded speech.

  • A highly developed ear for audio quality and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with creative storytelling and artistic

direction.

  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage

multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate

effectively with both creative and technical team members.

  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a

collaborative production environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and resourceful when

addressing technical or production challenges.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven creative environment.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, workflows, and production techniques.
  • A passion for excellence in Catholic media and an appreciation for the mission of

the Augustine Institute.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience producing audio dramas or narrative podcasts.
  • Experience creating audio content for mobile apps or digital media platforms.
  • Experience working with voice actors, narrators, composers, and other performers.
  • Experience with immersive or cinematic sound design.
  • Experience with music recording, editing, and production.
  • Familiarity with loudness standards and delivery specifications for streaming,

podcasting, mobile applications, and digital distribution.

  • Experience managing large audio libraries and complex production sessions.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will help Augustine Institute Studios consistently deliver audio

that is technically excellent, creatively compelling, and worthy of the stories and

messages we seek to share. Whether engineering a recording session for the Amen App,

building an immersive soundscape for an audio drama, producing a podcast, or preparing

a final master for distribution, this person will bring professionalism, creativity, and a

commitment to excellence to every project.
