Now, we are building the US team from the ground up, while continuing to grow rapidly in Europe.\nThe Role\nYou are DevOps Engineer #3. You join a Lead DevOps who has laid the groundwork - now you help scale it. You'll shape the infrastructure, automation, and reliability standards that let the entire engineering team ship faster and more safely.\nYou own big projects and drive them autonomously. You'll build and operate the platform that everything runs on - AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability, incident response, end to end. You work across engineering, security, and product to turn infrastructure into a competitive advantage. You design for failure, automate everything you can, and raise the bar for what production-grade means at a bank run by agents.\nYour First Six Months\nMonths 1-2: You ramp up on the current infrastructure - how deployments work, where the rough edges are, what is automated and what is not. You pick up your first big project as an IC and start shipping. You pair with the Lead DevOps but operate independently from week one.\n\nMonths 3-4: You ship your first big project - for example, PR environment deployments or multi-region infrastructure. You scope the next project on the roadmap.\n\nMonths 5-6: You shape the infrastructure roadmap alongside the Lead DevOps. You scope, plan, and drive projects as the lead. You are the person the engineering team trusts to keep the platform fast, reliable, and safe.\n\nWho Will Thrive At Augustus\nWe believe that throwing smart people with high agency at big problems produces the best outcomes. Your first instinct is to automate, not to handle it manually.\n\nThis role is for you if:\nYou will write backend code, learn new tooling, or do whatever it takes to get the job done - you don't see anything as outside your lane.\n\nYou care as much about developer experience as you do about uptime.\n\nIssues that block developers are your problems, not theirs.\n\nYou are excited about designing infrastructure for a bank that runs on agents, not on legacy systems.\n\nYou want to own the whole problem end to end, not a narrow slice of it.\n\nThis is not for you if:\nYou think DevOps means maintaining Jenkins and writing Helm charts.\n\nYou are a sysadmin by heart and do not step outside of infrastructure.\n\nYou need a well-defined scope handed to you before you can start.\n\nYou are not comfortable operating under banking-grade regulatory scrutiny.\n\nYou need a large team around you to be effective.\n\nHard Requirements\nExperience: 4+ years in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or similar roles.\n\nCloud Fluency: Advanced hands-on experience with AWS (IAM, EC2, EKS, VPC, CloudWatch, etc.).\n\nKubernetes Mastery: Ability to design, debug, and operate production-grade Kubernetes environments.\n\nIaC Expertise: Strong experience with Terraform (modules, workspaces, complex architectures).\n\nAutomation Mindset: Proficiency in Python, Go, or similar languages for automation and tooling.\n\nCI/CD: Experience designing and maintaining GitHub Actions - or comparable CI/CD systems.\n\nObservability: Familiarity with metrics, logging, distributed tracing, and incident response best practices.\n\nCommunication: You make complex infra concepts intuitive for developers and stakeholders.\n\nBased in Berlin or willing to relocate - this is an in-person role. We build together.\n\nPay transparency\nCompensation packages at Augustus include base salary, equity, and benefits. New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise and geographic location.
