Behind it sits a large Python codebase that turns modelling methods into software the whole business can rely on.\n\nWe’re looking for a Modelling Software Engineer to help us build and maintain the Python codebase behind Aurora’s Chronos battery storage modelling product. You’ll work in a small team (5-6 people) within a collaborative engineering and product-driven environment, owning feature development end-to-end to deliver valuable outcomes for users, while improving code quality and maintainability.\n\nYou will thrive here if you are keen on both best practice software engineering and sophisticated mathematical modelling of energy systems. You might come from a software background and want to work on energy and battery models. You might come from a modelling, science or quantitative background and want to build strong engineering habits. Both sides of the work are critical to success in this role.\nKey Responsibilities\nOwn feature development end-to-end: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and live operation.\nBreak down and estimate your own work accurately, and deliver to those estimates reliably. Deliver in increments so value is realised early and feedback arrives continuously.\nActively seek regular review and feedback to improve your own engineering and project delivery practice. Review others' code regularly, giving substantive, constructive feedback to others.\nIdentify and champion best practices and processes for software development.\nWrite maintainable, robust code. Favour simple solutions over complex ones, and treat operational requirements (logging, scalability, security) as part of the design, not an afterthought.\nApply agentic development practices in an accountable way to write, review, test, and analyse code, and help shape how the team applies it.\nActively support your team-mates, driving success and continuous improvement across the team.\nSkills, Knowledge and Expertise\n Required attributes:\n2-4 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of independently owning production software that others depend on.\nStrong fundamentals in testing, clean module design, and maintainable code. Python is the primary language of the codebase.\nA track record of code review, giving and receiving constructive technical feedback.\nEffective project management skills, providing up-front estimates, proactively managing issues as they arise, delivering on time and learning from project outcomes.\nYou think about the \"why\" before the \"how\", and you understand what value your work provides to the business and the user.\nCollaborative.
