We develop and optimize UX systems for efficient, high-quality static and dynamic map creation, focusing on managing workflows for faster updates, simplification, and improving data repair/reconstruction. Our work also includes supporting systems for geospatial label creation (model training), map validation, and using geospatial algorithms to reduce manual effort and accelerate turnaround. This is crucial for autonomy and business scaling, as our maps ensure successful autonomous fleet operation and meet strict quality standards.\nIn this role you will\nThis role requires a strong focus on cross-functional collaboration and partnership with delivery teams to drive critical initiatives. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building frameworks and solutions that are vital for the long-term scaling strategy of the business.\nLead the entire feature lifecycle for our mapping system, from designing the architecture to implementing both backend services and the user interface.\n\nArchitect and develop highly responsive, geospatially distributed backend services and data pipelines for processing and serving complex map data.\n\nBuild sophisticated and responsive web applications, translating complex datasets into powerful, intuitive products for our users.\n\nInfluence the technical direction and roadmap of the team. Mentor engineers through design reviews and collaboration, and continuously work to improve system architecture and reliability.\n\nEnsure code quality and system maintainability by participating in and providing feedback during code reviews for both web and backend codebases.\n\nPartner closely with both cross-team and operations stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver software solutions that directly enhance our Mapping efficiency.\n\nRequired qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience\n\n5+ years of industry experience in software development, with a successful history of owning and delivering complex software features from initial design through to deployment.\n\nDeep, full-stack expertise, encompassing both architecting and implementing scalable backend services and developing and deploying complex, modern WebGL-based applications using frameworks such as React or Angular.\n\nHands-on experience in full-stack development, including API design, implementation of geometric algorithms using Python, and familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Buildkite, CI/CD, and monitoring/alerting systems).\n\nStrong UX sensibility and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to advocate for strong user experience opinions and ensure implemented UI matches design specifications\n\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills, coupled with a strong sense of product ownership, capable of translating user needs into clearly defined technical solutions.\n\nDemonstrated sound judgment and a bias for action, effectively balancing the need for rapid development with long-term code quality and maintainability.\n\nDesirable qualifications\nDemonstrated background in UX Design for safety-critical or mission-critical applications.\n\nExperience in fields like autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other complex hardware/software systems.\n\nProven ability to scale workflows and pipelines.\n\nFor roles based in Seattle, WA and Mountain View, CA: The salary range for this position is $162,000 - $260,000 per year.\nFor roles based in Pittsburgh, PA: The salary range for this position is $146,000 - $234,000 per year.\nAurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
