We design and manufacture our hardware in Austin, Texas, with a focus on making high-performance sensing reliable, affordable, and widely available.\nAbout the Role\nWe’re hiring an Embedded Systems Engineer to develop the firmware and embedded software that operate our sensing hardware. You’ll own code that brings up boards, controls peripherals, moves sensor data, and keeps deployed systems running reliably.\nYou’ll work closely with electrical, RF, FPGA, and software engineers, taking systems from initial board bring-up through production and customer deployment. We’re looking for someone who understands the hardware beneath their code and can diagnose problems at the bench and in the field.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDevelop embedded firmware and software for microcontrollers and processors across our sensing products.\n\nBring up new boards, configure peripherals, and develop drivers alongside electrical engineers.\n\nImplement sensor control, data acquisition, and communications between hardware and application software.\n\nBuild interfaces using protocols such as SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, and Ethernet.\n\nDevelop reliable startup, configuration, fault handling, and recovery behavior.\n\nImplement firmware updates, diagnostics, and system health monitoring for deployed devices.\n\nDebug issues involving interrupts, timing, memory, communications, and hardware interactions.\n\nOptimize software for compute, memory, power, and latency requirements.\n\nBuild automated tests and tools for hardware validation, production testing, and field troubleshooting.\n\nDocument interfaces and system behavior, and use field feedback to improve reliability.\n\nWhat You’ll Bring\nExperience developing embedded firmware or software for deployed hardware products.\n\nProficiency in C or C++ and familiarity with Python or a similar language for testing and automation.\n\nStrong understanding of microcontrollers, processors, interrupts, memory, and peripheral interfaces.\n\nExperience with bare-metal development, real-time operating systems, or embedded Linux.\n\nHands-on board bring-up and debugging skills using JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.\n\nExperience diagnosing problems across firmware, hardware, and communications.\n\nFamiliarity with version control, automated builds, and software testing.\n\nClear technical communication and attention to reliability and maintainability.\n\nPreferred Experience\nExperience with radar, RF, acoustic, or other sensor systems.\n\nExperience developing Linux device drivers, board support packages, or bootloaders.\n\nFamiliarity with DMA, high-speed data acquisition, and interfaces to FPGAs.\n\nExperience with networked devices, time synchronization, and precise timestamping.\n\nExperience implementing secure boot and reliable remote updates.\n\nExperience supporting production testing and troubleshooting deployed systems.\n\nA
