The Engineering Lead acts as a force multiplier for engineering teams by creating reusable capabilities, improving developer experience, enabling automation-first delivery and ensuring compliance with ASX's regulatory, security and operational resilience obligations.\nThis role operates as a senior technology leader within Markets Technology, partnering closely with Product, Architecture, Cyber Security, Production Assurance, Delivery and Operations teams to deliver trusted, secure and highly resilient market infrastructure.\nWhat You'll Do\nEngineering Leadership\nLead and develop a high-performing team of Data, Platform and DevOps engineers.\n\nCreate an environment that promotes accountability, collaboration, learning and engineering excellence.\n\nEstablish engineering standards, practices and technical roadmaps.\n\nSupport workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and capability uplift.\n\nFoster a culture of automation, experimentation and continuous improvement.\n\nData Platform Engineering\nGuide the design and implementation of data pipelines, streaming integrations and data products supporting ASX Trade and downstream consumers.\n\nPromote standardised patterns for ingestion, transformation, quality, governance and distribution of data assets.\n\nEnsure data services are secure, discoverable, observable and operationally supportable.\n\nPartner with enterprise data platform teams to maximise reuse of common platform capabilities.\n\nDevOps & Platform Engineering\nEstablish and evolve CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code and platform engineering capabilities.\n\nDrive automation of deployment, testing, security controls and operational workflows.\n\nImprove engineering productivity through standardised tooling, reusable frameworks and paved-road platform services.\n\nSupport cloud and on-premises engineering environments.\n\nOperational Excellence & Resilience\nEnsure platforms meet ASX requirements for availability, recoverability, observability, security and performance.\n\nDefine and monitor service level objectives and operational health indicators.\n\nLead post-incident reviews and drive preventative improvements.\n\nEmbed SRE principles, reliability engineering and resilience-by-design practices.\n\nArchitecture & Technology Strategy\nContribute to domain technology strategy and target-state architecture.\n\nEnsure alignment with enterprise engineering, cyber, cloud and data strategies.\n\nEvaluate new technologies and engineering practices to improve delivery outcomes.\n\nChampion modern engineering approaches, including automation, observability, platform engineering and AI-assisted development where appropriate.\n\nStakeholder Engagement\nBuild trusted relationships across Markets Technology and enterprise functions.\n\nPartner with Product Owners, Architects, Delivery Leads, Production Assurance and Risk stakeholders.\n\nCommunicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.\n\nInfluence domain-wide engineering decisions through technical credibility and leadership.\n\nAccountabilities\nEngineering capability and team performance.\n\nReliability and operational supportability of platform services.\n\nData platform quality, governance and effectiveness.\n\nDelivery pipeline maturity and automation.\n\nCyber security and technology risk management.\n\nCost-efficient use of infrastructure and platform services.\n\nCompliance with ASX operational and regulatory requirements.\n\nExperience & Qualifications\nMust Have\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline.\n\n10+ years experience in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE or data engineering roles.\n\nDemonstrated experience leading engineering teams and developing technical talent.\n\nExperience operating highly available and resilient technology platforms.\n\nStrong understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.\n\nExperience with cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments.\n\nStrong stakeholder management and influencing skills.\n\nTechnical Expertise\nStrong knowledge across:\nData engineering and streaming platforms.\n\nCI/CD tooling and automation.\n\nInfrastructure as Code.\n\nCloud-native architectures.\n\nKubernetes and container platforms.\n\nObservability and telemetry platforms.\n\nAPI and event-driven integration patterns.\n\nLinux platforms and automation tooling.\n\nSecure software development lifecycle practices.\n\nDesirable\nExperience within financial markets, exchanges or critical infrastructure environments.\n\nAWS, Azure or GCP certifications.\n\nExperience establishing Platform Engineering or SRE operating models.\n\nRegulatory or operational risk experience.\n\nWe make hiring decisions based on your skills, capabilities and experience, and how you’ll help us to live our values.
