As the only American-owned and operated truck OEM, Autocar has been engineering severe-duty vocational trucks for over a century, delivering industry-leading uptime, customer support, and performance.\nOur customers rely on our trucks to tackle the toughest jobs every day, and our commitment to innovation, quality, and the industry's best service is backed by our 24/7 ALWAYS UP®direct factory support team.\nWe are looking for an Industrial Engineerto join our team and play a key role in optimizing manufacturing operations, drivingprocess improvements, and supporting the production of customized heavy-duty trucks that meet our customers' exact specifications.\nWhat You'll Do\nAs an Industrial Engineer, you will partner with cross-functional teams across manufacturing, engineering, and sales to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality throughout our production environment.\nKey responsibilities include:\nAnalyze and optimize heavy-duty truck assembly processes to improve productivity, reduce waste, and shorten cycle times.\nDesign and implement efficient production layouts, workflows, and workstation configurations using lean manufacturing principles.\nConduct time studies, capacity analyses, and process simulations to identify opportunities for operational improvement.\nCollaborate with production, engineering, and sales teams to support customized truck builds and evolving customer requirements.\nDevelop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to drive consistency, quality, and efficiency.\nSupport the implementation of automation, robotics, ERP systems, and other technology solutions to improve scalability and delivery timelines.\nAnalyze manufacturing data and key performance indicators (KPIs), providing actionable recommendations to leadership.\nParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping methodologies.\nEnsure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and operational best practices.\nAssist with cost analysis and budgeting efforts for process improvement projects.\nWhat We're Looking For\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field required.\nMaster's degree and/or professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Certified Manufacturing Engineer are preferred.\nExperience\n1-3 years of industrial engineering experience, preferably within manufacturing, automotive, heavy equipment, or heavy machinery environments.\nExperience with process optimization, production system design, and lean manufacturing initiatives.\nFamiliarity with ERP systems and process simulation software.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office applications.\nExperience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks Composer, or NX Unigraphics is a plus.\nSkills\nStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven mindset.\nExperience using process modeling and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, Arena, or Minitab.\nEffective communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.\nWorking knowledge of manufacturing standards, safety regulations, and quality management systems.\nInterest in automation technologies, data analytics, and continuous improvement practices.\nWhat You’ll Get\nWe offer an attractive compensation and benefits package, to include base salary, incentive bonus opportunities, and benefits including comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life and AD&D insurance, and short-term and long-term disability.\n401(k) with a company match to help you invest in your future. \nPaid time off (PTO) and company holidays to rest, recharge, and maintain work-life balance.\nA high-impact role with real ownership.\nLocation: Birmingham, AL\nBirmingham is one of the Southeast’s most dynamic and affordable cities, recognized nationally as a growing business hub and an attractive destination for professionals.
