Position Overview

Autodesk’s Platform team is looking for a Software Engineer (Java & AWS) to join our growing engineering organization. Our team builds cloud-native services and platform capabilities that enable Autodesk products and experiences used by millions of customers worldwide.

In this role, you will design, build, test, deploy, and operate scalable services within Autodesk’s cloud data platform. You will work with modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, gRPC, AWS, Terraform, and microservices, while collaborating with engineers, architects, and product partners to deliver reliable and secure platform capabilities. You will be based in Pune, India, report to the Manager of Software Development, and work within Autodesk’s flexible hybrid work model.

Responsibilities

• Contribute across the complete software development lifecycle, including architecture, design, estimation, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance

• Design and develop reliable, scalable, and maintainable cloud-native services using Java and Spring Boot

• Design and implement service-to-service communication using gRPC and RESTful APIs

• Build comprehensive automated tests and incorporate quality, security, observability, and operational readiness into the development process

• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to translate business and technical requirements into well-designed product capabilities

• Develop and integrate microservices, RESTful APIs, gRPC services, and event-driven systems within a distributed cloud environment

• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using AWS services and Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and support production services, contributing to incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and improvements to system reliability

• Participate in code and design reviews and contribute to technical discussions and engineering decisions

• Continuously improve engineering practices, CI/CD workflows, development processes, and team productivity

• Apply software engineering principles and design patterns to create solutions that are extensible, testable, and maintainable

• Actively use AI-assisted software development practices and tools as part of the engineering workflow, including Spec-Driven Development, code generation, automated code reviews, test generation, debugging, and developer productivity tools, while maintaining high standards for quality, security, and maintainability

• Learn new technologies and share knowledge and engineering best practices across the team

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

• 3+ years of professional software development experience, with hands-on experience building production-grade applications using Java

• Strong proficiency in Java, including a solid understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentals

• Hands-on experience with Spring and Spring Boot for developing production-grade services

• Experience designing and developing microservices using gRPC and RESTful APIs

• Experience with Protocol Buffers (Protobuf) and service contract design

• Experience with AWS and cloud services such as SQS, S3, DynamoDB, IAM, and Lambda, or comparable services

• Experience using Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code technologies

• Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and scalable cloud application architectures

• Experience applying software design patterns, clean-code principles, and engineering best practices

• Experience with automated unit, integration, and service-level testing

• Experience using Git and working with modern CI/CD pipelines

• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding and software development tools as part of day-to-day engineering workflows, including code generation, code understanding, testing, debugging, or code review

• Ability to effectively use AI-assisted development while applying sound engineering judgment to validate generated code for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, and test coverage

• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills

• Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Guice, including dependency injection and building modular Java applications

• Experience building, deploying, monitoring, and operating large-scale SaaS applications

• Experience with Apache Flink or other stream-processing technologies

• Experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging systems

• Experience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency gRPC services in distributed environments

• Familiarity with observability practices, including application metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, and production troubleshooting

• Experience with performance and load-testing tools such as BlazeMeter or similar technologies

• Familiarity with shell scripting and engineering automation

• Experience working across multiple Git repositories and shared platform services

• Familiarity with secure cloud-development practices, IAM, and designing highly available and resilient services
