We're looking for an Intermediate UX/UI Designer to join us on a 6-month fixed-term maternity leave contract, ideally starting on or around 16 November 2026.

This role is ideal for a designer who is excited by AI, already using it in their workflow, and wants to help define what modern AI-assisted design looks like.

The Opportunity

This isn't a traditional UX role.

You won't spend months polishing wireframes that never ship. You'll work across product, marketing, growth, and brand. You'll help shape experiences from idea to launch, using AI tools throughout the process.

You'll work closely with founders, product, engineering, and growth, with the autonomy to make decisions and the responsibility to see them through.

Most importantly, you’ll help us discover how AI can make great designers even better. Our designers are constantly learning how to use AI to strengthen their design process and deliver higher-quality UX and UI. We expect you to be just as curious, motivated, and excited to explore what’s possible.

What You'll Do

Design Product Experiences

• Conduct user research to uncover customer needs, behaviors, and pain points, and turn those insights into better product experiences
• Design user flows, wireframes, interfaces, and interactions across new and existing product experiences
• Translate complex AI concepts into intuitive, accessible user experiences
• Rapidly prototype and test ideas using AI tools, or be eager to learn how
• Work closely with engineering to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and ready to ship

Design for Growth and Marketing

• Create landing pages, campaign assets, product visuals, and website experiences
• Support experiments that help us acquire, activate, and retain users
• Ensure a consistent visual language across product and marketing
• Contribute to brand evolution as Autohive grows

Use AI as Part of Your Craft

• Use AI tools to accelerate research, discovery, ideation, planning, and design
• Leverage AI for competitor analysis, user insight synthesis, content generation, and concept exploration
• Use AI-assisted design and coding tools to rapidly prototype and validate ideas
• Continuously experiment with new AI workflows and share what you learn with the team
• Be willing to learn and adopt AI into your design toolbelt

Help Shape How We Work

• Maintain and evolve our design system
• Help improve internal design processes
• Contribute ideas beyond design and help shape product direction
• Bring curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to experiment

Requirements

Core Skills

• 2+ years of experience in UX, product design and/or digital design
• Strong interaction design, information architecture, and visual design skills
• Ability to move comfortably between product design and marketing design
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working in fast-moving environments where priorities can change quickly

AI-Native Mindset

This role requires someone who actively uses AI as part of their design practice.

We're less interested in which tools you use and more interested in how you think about them.

Location

This role is based in our Wellington CBD office. Applicants must already be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
