We move quickly, ship often, and use AI every day to help us think, research, design, build, and market faster than traditional teams.\nWe're looking for an Intermediate UX/UI Designer to join us on a 6-month fixed-term maternity leave contract, ideally starting on or around 16 November 2026.\nThis role is ideal for a designer who is excited by AI, already using it in their workflow, and wants to help define what modern AI-assisted design looks like.\nThe Opportunity\nThis isn't a traditional UX role.\nYou won't spend months polishing wireframes that never ship. You'll work across product, marketing, growth, and brand. You'll help shape experiences from idea to launch, using AI tools throughout the process.\nYou'll work closely with founders, product, engineering, and growth, with the autonomy to make decisions and the responsibility to see them through.\nMost importantly, you’ll help us discover how AI can make great designers even better. Our designers are constantly learning how to use AI to strengthen their design process and deliver higher-quality UX and UI. We expect you to be just as curious, motivated, and excited to explore what’s possible.\nWhat You'll Do\nDesign Product Experiences\nConduct user research to uncover customer needs, behaviors, and pain points, and turn those insights into better product experiences\nDesign user flows, wireframes, interfaces, and interactions across new and existing product experiences\nTranslate complex AI concepts into intuitive, accessible user experiences\nRapidly prototype and test ideas using AI tools, or be eager to learn how\nWork closely with engineering to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and ready to ship\nDesign for Growth and Marketing\nCreate landing pages, campaign assets, product visuals, and website experiences\nSupport experiments that help us acquire, activate, and retain users\nEnsure a consistent visual language across product and marketing\nContribute to brand evolution as Autohive grows\nUse AI as Part of Your Craft\nUse AI tools to accelerate research, discovery, ideation, planning, and design\nLeverage AI for competitor analysis, user insight synthesis, content generation, and concept exploration\nUse AI-assisted design and coding tools to rapidly prototype and validate ideas\nContinuously experiment with new AI workflows and share what you learn with the team\nBe willing to learn and adopt AI into your design toolbelt\nHelp Shape How We Work\nMaintain and evolve our design system\nHelp improve internal design processes\nContribute ideas beyond design and help shape product direction\nBring curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to experiment\nRequirements\nCore Skills\n2+ years of experience in UX, product design and/or digital design\nStrong interaction design, information architecture, and visual design skills\nAbility to move comfortably between product design and marketing design\nStrong communication and collaboration skills\nExperience working in fast-moving environments where priorities can change quickly\nAI-Native Mindset\nThis role requires someone who actively uses AI as part of their design practice.\nWe're less interested in which tools you use and more interested in how you think about them.\nWhen you apply, we want to see evidence of how AI helps you:\nResearch and analyse problems\nGenerate ideas and explore concepts\nCreate user flows and design solutions\nBuild prototypes and test assumptions\nImprove your overall speed and quality of work\nBe prepared to walk us through your workflow and show examples.\nLocation\nThis role is based in our Wellington CBD office.
